In the olden days before rugby went professional, the top rugby players that were selected as All Blacks were hard ass farmers from little country towns.
Tough as, loved getting plastered after the game and most did not enjoy the international travel involved… just wanted to get back to the farm.

Been to NZ once only on a transfer flight, did not get out of the airport. Looked really cool from the air.

Some cycling buddies from there always told me your black top (pavement in the US) is kinda rough?

He's quite right, a lot of our roads are in bad shape,but the State Highways are good in general, and we have some tarmac roads that are fantastic for grip and positive camber in the turns.
We do not have concrete roads like the US does. Too expensive for us poor ass Kiwis to pay for lol.
Even if the road you're on is in poor condition here, the scenery makes up for it!
