Chain Problems

I'm having prob's with my chain. At 1200 miles I had already streched the chain all the way back! I want to put a stronger chain on but I don't no the tencil strength of the stock one. Can anyone help? I am also planing to up the rear sprocket to 42 teeth.

I replaced my chain with a Tsubaki HQR 530 non o-ring drag race chain. It has a tensile strength of 10,500 lbs.It is the strongest chain on the market for street bikes.I have used this type of chain for years with no problem on the street.Since it is non o-ring you must clean it at least once a month.Schnitz racing sells the chain. They charge by the link.I only had to adjust the chain once since I installed it.And the bike rides alot smoother.

Before I bought my first busa was refered by local dealer to a friend of his at US suzuki and I asked if there had been any problems with the bikes. His only complaint had been that they do believe that they got a hold of a bad batch of chain. His advice was to let dealer see chain and they would warranty chain because they were aware of problem. You may have one of these chains and I would definetly check into it.

After spending alot of time calling around talking w/suzuki rep's and talking with the U.S. importer of RK Chains I found that the stock tensile strength of that chain is only 10,000 lbs. I was told by a RK Rep. that the tensile strength is not a factor here because the chain is not breaking. They said it is the wear life of the chain... They think it is simply to light of a chain for that heavy of a bike. So after chasing down as much info. as poss. and having the Mid-Ohio races close at hand I made the choise to get the "RK530LO" this has a tensile strength of 11,200 lbs. This should help in that I'm putting a 42 tooth sprocket on the rear.

How many links is the stock chain? I want to order one but I dont know the size to get.

Where did you order the 11,200lbs chain and how much did it cost?

Thanks
Don

Make sure you get the rivet type masterlink, don't even mess with the clip type.

The Hayabusa chain from the factory is a RK GS50GSV Z3, 112 links which of course is so new it is not in my books.

Tsubaki Sigma is around 10,700
DID 530ZVM is 10,400

The chain I discovered at the RK distrib. #
1-760-732-3161 (ask for Gary) they ave the chain in lengths of 114 & 120. I ordered the 120.. I figure it's better to have more than not enough, and since i'm adding 2 teeth in the rear I figure I should be able to get away with 114 links but 120 would be playing it safe!!! Also a company called Sprocket Specialists at 1-800-782-8200 (ask for Nancy she's really nice and helpful) has a wide slection of different sprockets (front & back). I called vortex first but the guy I talked with said they didn't have any sprockets yet for the busa but he herd that the rear sprocket is the same as a GSXR 750 (1997)??? Strange... The RK distrib. (above #) is working with RK overseas trying to determine the problem with the chain. When they called me they seemed real interested in the events leading up to the stretch (like were you beating the bike!!!) So if you are having prob's with your (factory) chain giv'em a call and let them know the story. Maybe next year we will have a "WEAKNESS FREE WONDER BIKE!!!!"

After you adjust the cain all the way out, is it ok to remove one link and start over?

The front wheel, rotor, calipers, bearings, and axle are the same for the 97-99 GSXR750. The rear wheel, rotor, bearings, axle, cush drive, and sprocket is the same for the 97-99 GSXR750.

You want a new sprocket, tell them you have a 97-99 GSXR750 (6 bolt 120mm hole). The chain is a RK GS50GSV Z3, 112 links (530), no clue on strengh on this chain.

Most after market parts places have never seen a Hayabusa, so most will not tell you if they have parts for one.

TO SABOR. TAKE A LOOK IN CUSH DRIVE.IN TOPIC AND YOU WILL FIND OUT THE PROBLEM THAT I HAD WITH MY CHAIN.FN
