Here is my opinion...if you are going to have it tuned and the tuner is able to tune through the ECU then go that route. If you are going to run a base map off a website then go with a PC3 or PC5. ECU tuning has to be done by a GOOD tuner...
I agree that ECU tuning has to be done by a good tuner. It is also my opinion that a good tuner can tune better with a powercommander. The BEST tune would be a powercommander, and a good tuner using Tuning Link software. Yes, ECU editor has a lot of good features that can, and should be implemented. Fuel tuning is NOT one of them. Just because you can do it with ECU editor, doesn't mean its the best way to do it. I like to use ECU editor to disable ram air compensation prior to tuning with a powercommander. After the tune, I re-enable ram air. I also remove speed limitations, unify maps, raise rev limits, change the rev cut, etc., etc. . . . all good stuff, only possible with ECU editor.
It continues to amaze me that of all the people I have seen - so far - promoting ECU eidtor for fuel tuning, not one of them is a tuner, or has spent 2 minutes tuning on a dyno. They have no clue what is involved, or what effect different methods can have on a bike. Dyno tuning a motorcycle does NOT have to be brutal on the clutch, the tire, etc., and it does not have to take four hours or more - like ECU editor. I have over ten years experience tuning: PCIIs, PCIIIs, PCIIIUSBs, PCVs, Bazzaz, Microtech, Split Second, ECU editor, "fudge" paks, Cobra boxes, etc., etc. There is a lot of stuff out there, and IMO, a lot of it is junk. A better way would be to get a thread going where only legitimate tuners could respond to offer their opinions. That would be valuable, since my opinion is not the only one out there that counts.
