Butchered body panel stickers

Well I installed my PMR kill switch and rear turnsignals today, so then I thought I would remove the decal stickers with WD-40. I soaked the decals and peeled away. Then the bottom layer and alot of sticky stuff was left. I soaked that in WD-40 and tried scraping away with a hand held scraper. Ouch! I started taking some paint off. I don't want to use finger nails like I did with the warning decals. That stuff is just too tedious for me. Is there some kind of attachment that I could put on my drill or high speed buffer that would remove this without damaging the paint even more? If not, I would rather break down the panels and get a paint job. Much easier to do!

you used wd-40 on your plastic....

wow umm... big mistake but i guess you know that now. They say the best way to remove the stickers is to heat them up with a hair dryer and peel them off then use goo gone to get the sticky stuff off. I just finally got a wild hair and pulled my stickers off my swing arm and frame to day and used a razor blade to start peeling them and pulled them right off... then i used some goof off stuff that i've had and it got the sticky stuff off with ZERO effort ...
Its to bad you didnt SEARCH for how to get the stickers off before you used wd-40 cause your going to need a paint job now...

OH and before you go and try to pull the stickers off teh gas tank... you cant.. they are clear coated on so you WILL take the paint off if you try to remove those...

here are your pictures posted the right way...

Ouch...might as well break out the DA sander, at this rate you'll be repainting anyway.

Gas tank sticker isn't clear-coated; I took mine off with a fingernail (took maybe 30-45 minutes). Removed the balance of the glue with duct tape, and then followed up with a good wax.

That sticky stuff SUCKS!!! Its like nothing I have seen before. Believe it or not I got mine off with a rubber sanding block with nothing on it. The rubber rubbed off the sticky stuff but didnt harm the plastics at all. Before I tried the rubber sanding block I rubbed my fingers raw trying to get that crap off. Good luck.

we are talking about just the stickers on the tank... not the body panels

I used steam (hand held steam cleaner...don't own a hairdryer), a finger nail, and some WD-40. It was clear-coated (I believe) but I worked it out.

cbibb,
Thanks for your input about using a sanding block without paper. It works! I have all sticky crap removed except a couple small spots on the fairing. My hand got tired. I'll probably finish the rest tomorrow. I did see where I took the paint off from when I used a hand held scraper on the front nose fairing. If I had to paint anything, it would definitely be the nose that I would paint black instead of keeping the silver. Thanks again.

I used a heatgun but you better be careful if you've never used one.

No problem, glad it worked out for you. I rubbed the tips of my fingers raw before I found out about the sanding block. camaroguy72 just get a rubber sanding block (I would buy a new one to ensure no dirt or anything on it) and start rubbing away. It will take that sticky crap off and because it soft rubber wont scrape the plastics. When you are done you wil have some black marks on the plastic. Just get some goo gone and wipe it right off and you are done. Let me know if you need any more help. Chris

yea what i did was i used a sanding block , sprayed some sticker remover on there to make it even easier to get off lol. it was like using an erase. used some cleaner wax, washed it off, and polished it. voila.. looke bootyful
