I thought of something that might be cool. Of all the people on this board and all the different places we are from, what is your home town bucket list? From your point of view what are the must see or do attractions of your home town?
For La Vernia, once a year we have our Annual BBQ cook off. It is the second weekend in August. This cookoff started out very small in attendence and has grown to in excess of 30,000 people for the weekend event.

Click on link to see more about the cookoff: http://www.laverniabbq.com/

Well, I didn't intend for this thread to be a Chamber of commerce ad but, more or a whats cool in your area. I do get the humor in what your saying though.

My hometown; Carney, OK holds a "Fireman's Festival" every July. It's a time for all 550 people in the town to get together, shoot fireworks, and just have fun.

Sounds like fun. One of those things the whole town turns out for.

p.s. and you don't have to wear a helmet if you don't cross the Mississippi River into Missouri

Flint MI - We have the Crim Festival of Races (running and walking) it draws a pretty good crowd, I think it was around 30,000 participants this year.

Back to the Bricks is a VERY large car cruise that lasts for 4 days the same weekend as the Woodward Dream Cruise.

And we have Bikes on the Bricks. Less of a cruise and more of a rally type event, I don't have much on that one cause I've only been one time for a short time.

i guess it would be Fort Dobbs, a battle was fought there when the north invaded the south. they managed to stand there ground until the civil war was over and this was one of the last areas in NC to accept it was over. also during the civil war Statesville was the Capital of NC when the Governor stayed here while the war was going on ,he stayed in the Historic Vance Hotel which still stands but is closed.

its not in statesville but about 30 miles south east is the ZMAX Dragway. 4 lanes i've seen 4 top fuel cars make a sub 4 second pass. it is heart stopping to say the least.

How about a bucket list for surrounding areas around your town. Ours is kinda small so we don't have much but across Mobile Bay I would say a must do is......

1. Go to a Mardi Gras Parade and a Ball.

2. Check out the Battleship USS Alabama USS ALABAMA BATTLESHIP

3. Bellingrath Gardens (especially at Christmas) http://www.bellingrath.org/

4. Go to Bay Fest (3 day music event in down town Mobile)

Our side of the Bay

1. Check out the many miles of white sandy beaches we have down here in Alabama.

2. Eat at Manci's antique club ( in our town) Manci's Antique Club - Historic Restaurant & Bar in Daphne, AL

3. Go to Flora-Bama Flora-Bama Lounge, Package and Oyster Bar

4. Rent a boat and cruise around the gulf.

5. Check out Fort Morgan and take a ferry ride across the bay.

Waterloo, Ohio.......Home of the Fabulous Waterloo Wonders!

From 1933 to '35, a high school team from tiny Waterloo - 02.06.95 - SI Vault

They have since torn down the old school gyn where they played and i have a piece of the interior glazed block!

Down the road in Beautiful downtown Ironton, Ohio is the site of one of the First Professional football team. Named the Tanks. They took Championships in '26 and '30 over such teams as the Chicago Bears! They were eventually bought and moved to Detroit and renamed the Lions! Ironton is also home to the longest running Memorial Day parade.
Part of the Underground Railway, Ironton is rich in history... Read about it here.

Ironton, Ohio - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

These days, Ironton hosts a 4 day bike rally called Rally on the River in late August. Fun time with attendance in the 20,000's.

 Alton is a VERY cool place.. plus they have all sorts of swanky dive bars too!! LOL

Charleston South Carolina. We got everything from haunted ghost walks, to carriage rides, to beer fests, to scuba diving, race boat harbor tours, the Yorktown air craft carrier, and coming soon gambling boats. If you need or are looking for something to do, come this way, I will give ya a tour. And if none of that fits your fancy, we can always put the boat in the water and go fishing, or sit on the dock and fish.

well i think he done said it about New Braunfels. wurstfest, the rivers and schlitterbahn, none of which we attend, to many idiots for me. no offence to anyone.

Some great posts here. I really love all the historic ships. If I get to Alabama i will definaty check out the USS Alabama and the Yorktown if i get to go thru South Carolina. I think the Texas is a sister ship to the Alabama as is the Lexington is to the Yorktown. I have seen the Texas and the Lexington ,worth the trip both times.
