BMC Race filter

So the instructions call for a "special BMC air filter cleaner".....

My question is: Is it absolutely crucial to use this or is there another way that will work just as fine?

I've have had mine for almost 2 years now, and all I've ever used is just soap and water, and it seems to work fine. At least that's my method, maybe someone else has something better.

I'm sure they make a cleaner, but soap and water should do just fine.

But I still still need to spray filter oil on it, right?

We use K&N's recharging kit. Works the same way.
