Had 2000 miles, and 3 months worth of drag racing my bike ( '99 mod. ), before recall came out. No ill efects. Recall work done. Now, 1 year later, the only thing replaced since, was battery, 2 months ago. No weird noises.

From what I remember the tensioner problem was a potentially "defective" spring in the unit. It was probably the one which preloads the "latch" to hold the adjuster out after it takes up slack. I heard of a failure or two on this board, never anywhere else.

If you have a noise coming from the right side of your motor, it could be something other than the tensioner. Usually when a cam chain is loose you will hear it at idle, when you rev it up it goes away. I believe Suzuki's recall was above and beyond the necessary, the actual failures were far and few according to info from my sources.

I think that "web" info can cause people to overreact sometimes. For what it's worth, I STILL have the original tensioner in my 99. Has 3K miles on it, been to the track 4 times, not a noise/problem yet. I do plan on changing it out when I check the valves, but I doubt the old one is bad. But what do I know....

Attention all Busa owners! Read the last few replies in the post 'cam chains breaking again' .... am pretty sure most of u will agree on what was brought up. Lets do something about it! Anyone with suggestions or opinions pls voice out in this post. Getting signatures from all won't be a practical solution as some of us live far apart(like me!)
My suggestion would be to email the Suzuki official site(after sales services dept or something like that?) and demand a proper gurantee that the recalled & replaced cam chain tensioner thats on both 99 & 00 models now will work and if not come up with something better for us free of charge! Am sure that if we're all united and do the same they'll give in eventually! Hey ... dun think they wanna mess around with ZX-12 lurking around the corner waiting to eat up the Busa at Suzuki's silly mistake with the tensioner!!!!!

Breathless with anticipation,
Terence

We should have the Suzuki dealer that you bought your bike from inspect the bike even after the recall is done on your bike, there could be other minor problems like the bolt or nut that holds the tenion adjustment coming loose due to wrong torque settings or just plain vibration. This should be done on bikes that are having the problem noise only.I'm checking mind this weekend before I send it to the dealer.I do believe we only had one person that had his engine die due to the chain tenior giving way.Let's not jump the gun and blame the dealer or Suzuki,we are the real world riders and should bring this type of problem to Suzuki so they can fix it and make this bike better and safer for all.My 2cents

my .02 get legal action started and next year the Busa is 13,500 due to some had to fight a stupid law suit.If you have a problem under warranty see a dealer you trust if not I would suggest an extended warranty by Suzuki and put your mind to rest.
Like I said my.02

Tay

I never heard such bullsh!t in my life. We have ONE guy with a real problem after Suzi spent a lot of good money putting the recall on.

ONE.

There is no goddamn sense to spreading incredibly stupid RUMORS.

If you have hard facts lets hear them. If all you have is ticking noises and ONE failure
(that's questionable) stop insulting a great bike.

Tom & Tay perhaps you would be happier with a Kawasaki. I just know that no one is going to have any problem with the 12 at all. Yeah right.

It's good to hear voices of reason. Thanx guys. I will turn off the flamethrower now.

just a thought ... yes we can just spend money rectifying the problem and move along but this forum isn't just all about modifying bikes ... it is to help all Busa owners both rich and poor! It is really easy for those financially well off to say just pay and move off but what about the rest dats not so well off??? They might afford to buy the bike and bear its maintenance costs but they might not be able to withstand further expences ....

Terence,

Then people like that need to also bear the cost of the extended warranty so they don't need to bear any "extra" costs beyond the normal maintenance.

We're talking about an $11,000 bike here. If anyone buying one can just afford the purchase price and "normal" maintenance costs, maybe they should consider something of lesser cost.

KA just what does your supermodified self maintained H do that the stock ones can't do? Do you have before and after top speed,0-60 times, 0-100 times, roll-ons, 1/4 mile times, track lap times, etc., (no dyno numbers please) so we can evaluate the modifications before we buy them? I'd hate to spend a few thousand dollars on mods and still end up "bored", but with a much noisier bike that no one will want to buy.

The stock H has more perfomance than most other sport bikes have when supertuned. To make it sound like sticking with stock is opting for a dull ride just doesn't add up.

There is nothing wrong with tarting up your H to your hearts content, but there's nothing wrong with keeping it bone stock either.

And not everyone has the skill and knowledge to maintain their own bike. Enough of the holier than thou stuff.

Leave it stock, buy extended warranty and you will be BORED!

Check the rear cush hub for casting marks and worry yourself to death with that as well.

Looking for Suzuki to warranty a life threatening "issue", fix it yourself and move along as you are missing a lot of fun riding the most fun bike ever built.
