BAH!!! More barbs tossed out by folks who are just pissed off because they didn't get an Arai...

Still, pretty funny...

Someone had some time in the trailer to put this thing together...

I spent the best part of an hour yesterday readin' owner feedback on Arai lids on a review site and I've gotta say I'm findin' it hard to plop down the bucks on one now. Seems a few problems just kept poppin' up in the reviews. Mainly complaints about 'em bein' really noisy and about shid fallin' off of 'em. For the price of an Arai I wouldn't have expected so many folks to have so many problems.

I was just about convinced to drop some bucks on a new Arai but now I'm almost ready to go try on the different Shoei models. The RF-900 I have now has been a great lid. Not one single problem other than a foggin' shield which apparently all but ScorpionEXO (according to their literature and a demo by the rep anyway) have a problem with. The price of a new Arai is a lot of jack to drop and not be happy with what ya get.

And yeah, there were a good number of folks postin' feedback like Rev gives Arai, too. However, even though I didn't count and come up with a ratio of good to bad it seemed that at least a third of the folks who rated the Arai gave it less than stellar feedback. I dunno...

Yeah it's a tough decision when you're tempted to fix something that ain't broke. I never imagined I'd find a better fitting seat for me than the Corbin, but the Tobin proved me wrong ... same with a better windscreen as I like the PUIG better than the ZG ... and tires wow ... I like the Powers better than the Diablos. I'm still not ready to look for a better lid though, the Shoei 900 and 1000 do it for me.

Yeah, I know the Arai's are louder than some others but what parts are said to be falling off?
rock.gif
Lemme Guess? Sidepods? The parts that cover the visor mechanism?

Seriously though, hit me with a couple of links to the negatives if you would.
Oh and Shoei's are cool, I allways liked my RF900 and Pam likes her's as well. Hard to go wrong. Main reason I switched to Arai was the fit. The Medium Quantum fits perfect with it's smaller shell, while the RF series I had to wear a large and it's larger shell shared with the extra Large lids made me feel like a bobble head.

Hey DJ, how about givin' me a run down of the differences you have found between Diablos and Powers. I'm kinda in a delima as to which I want to go with on the 10. I'm leanin' toward Powers since I liked them so well on the busa, but I'm also tempted to try the Diablo Corsa... I'm gonna replace the Dunslops before they wear out but I've pretty much decided to let them stay on until the end of winter/beginning of spring. No need to have sticky tires on for it to sit on the Pit Bulls not even touchin' the ground.

Also, is there any difference in fit between RF900 and RF1000?

No, the only complaints of side pods/covers poppin' off was when removin' the shield. I can understand doin' that incorrectly and poppin' the covers off. The parts that concerned me more were the vent cowls and the padding piece inside the chin area of the lid. Several folks said that the double sided tape that holds the vent cowls on lets go in hot sun. According to what kind of tape they use, this makes sense given my experience in auto body with d/s tape. I've seen it happen with emblems that were put on with improper tape. Don't know why the chin pad comes out. Don't remember anyone mentioning what caused that. I think one guy said his came out after he had cleaned the inside of the lid a couple times with Woolite. The rest just said the thing fell out...

Another gripe that popped up a few times was overapplication of glue in the chin area (maybe on later models to prevent the chin pad from fallin' out?). More than one person complained of the retractable chin spoiler bein' glued shut from the factory.

I got the feedback site from a google search and didn't bookmark it. I'll play around with google and see if I can find it again so I can link you to it.

Another feature that has me kinda leanin' toward another Shoei is the "ratcheting" visor. I like how it has detent notches in the mechanism that will hold it at different positions between closed and open. It's nice bein' able to crack it open to the first notch and ride with it there to avoid the dreaded fogged shield. I've never had the shield on my RF900 move out of that position at speed. The Arai doesn't have those notches so I don't know how well it would stay cracked open without openin' up further.

I've gotta say that based on all the lids I've tried on the Arai Quantum has fit the best. A back to back fitting of my RF900 and a Quantum/e I got from flrider has the Arai edgin' out the RF900 in overall comfort. At the same time the RF900 isn't uncomfortable by any means.

I still want to try on a RX7 Corsair before I buy anything. Since the bike will soon go on the stands for the winter (probably) I'm in no hurry to buy a new lid. I've got all winter to shop and be sure I make the right decision.

OH, The Shoei visor "Ratcheting" system is nice, as is the Lever for poping open the visor. Also, Arai visor will open itself when you look over your shoulder at speed. The wind catches it and gives you about 1" of open... Kinda irritating. Chin area??? I dunno anything about that. But the Ratcheting feature is one I miss. Though I have found the shield swappin to be easier and faster on the Arai, once you get it down....

Don't worry about the negatives BT, I have prolly seen em allready... I poke around alot...

Hey Rev, here's a link to one of the review sites I found before. Can't find the other one. It didn't have as many reviews as this one but it seemed to have more negatives... This one has 108 reviews of the Quantum/f with an overall rating of 3.86 out of 5... Lower than I'd like to see for the price... Know what I mean?

I'm wonderin' if QC isn't on the decline based on these. Seems the newer the reviews get the more complaints ya see...

Yeah, once I went to the Arai site and watched the (real) video on how to remove the shield it was a "snap"... (pun intended). I've got no real problem with Arai's shield removal. I would have a problem with it poppin' open on a lane change shoulder check...

Oh, and too late to forget the negatives. I already posted the link... I could delete it if you like.

I would just buy one for the comfort and the look. Of course I wouldn't buy a cheap one either but shoei has a pretty good variety and they are a purty good helmets. AGV makes some good ones too.
