Anyone know how to hack DirecTV boxes?

A long way back, there was an article in PC magazine or some such that went into the details of how to substitute a much larger HD for the one in the Hi Def Box DirecTV offers. There was also info on how to capture recorded shows to disc, etc. Anyone up on this, or can you point me to a source?

ya, the link above will help.. I have done the hd upgrade several times, its really easy.. Used to hack into the old Tivo's, but now direct tv only does leases on equipment, so you don't own it. Besides the hard drives are so big and they offer so many options it's not really worth it any more.

another option would be to go to tivocommunity.com (tivo underground). I've done this myself, also & used weaknees.com to purchase pre-formatted drives.

I hate the small hd that comes with my comcast cable box. I can only fit about 4 hd football games on there and its full
