6th Gear Noise / Squeal

Hi.

I have an k4, but it has developed a squeal in 6th gear. Whenever you apply throttle (even a tiny amount) the high pitch squealing starts, as soon as you let off the throttle it stops.
Also the same (or similar) noise can be heard in all gears when slowing down (engine breaking).

I can only think it is a gear selector fork, but would like to hear if anyone has encountered similar problems and what was done to fix it.
