Big news in Canada right now. A couple of army deserters are seeking refuge here a hundred miles from me. I don't want them. Actually,I want them hung. Seriously...isn't desertion punishable by death? or is that just in times of war?
Background: The smaller islands near my big island just a few miles north of Washington state have been a favourite for US draft dodgers since the Vietnam war. They came up here by the thousands and still live here today,the commie bastids. I didn't like 'em then, and I don't like them now.
This latest big case is in the papers because this guy has come out in the open denouncing what he says is an unjust war. Sounds like a cry baby to me,but thats just me. He says he witnessed attrocities by US troops. Things like murder,assaults,torturing and even said he witnessed troops playing soccer with the head of an' Iraqie. So now he wants to live here,because the US military was supposedly mean to people. His children are already enjoying a nice Canadian school,getting nice medical and dental,food and accomodation on my tax dollar. The folks that live on the island that he has chosen are rallying behind him (mostly because they are Vietnam war draft dodgers themselves).
His case is before the courts. If he is allowed to stay,the experts say this will open the flood gates for like 30,000 more just like him.
Is it just me again? Is my thought process way off? Should I just let him and the 4 kids that he couldn't support as a part time welder in Oklahoma(no offence Captain) just live in my spare bedroom? He said he didn't realize that by joining the armed forces that he might have to go to war? What the heck? He said he joined the army to get free medical and dental for his wife and kids,not to go to what he claims is an' unjust war. He says he thought he was joining the military to build bridges in the US.
If he wins his court case....the border will be overflowing with US military people running from their duty.
Canada is kind of a funny place. If you are a murderer for instance...and can escape from the US into Canada we won't extradite you to the states if you tell us you will be harmed in a US prison. If you've been sentenced to death,we wont send you back to your country,because Canadians supposedly dont like capital punishment(the death penalty).You can then live out yer life in a nice cozy Canadian prison. We have TV,Nintendo,you can get a university degree,you can work within the prison and get paid,you can lay around yer cell all day if you want...all on my tax dollar.
If you are running from any country in the world because of religious persecution...we dumb Canucks will take you in,put you up, for ever. You wouldn't even have to work,you could go on our welfare system.
Don't freak at me...I'm not upset...just exchanging thoughts.
