Had the 2nd front brake recall done, front still feels mushy and it takes a hell of a squeeze to get a serious level of deceleration.

What's the go-to front brake set up for a Gen 3?

People have switched out the MC and gone with a Brembo unit and some sort of steel brake lines with great success....

and many have changed out their pads to EBC sintered HH......

About the same.

It took a hell of a squeeze before the recall, and still does.

I marked the master cylinder with a scribe on the side to see if they changed it, they did.

Are you aware of the symptoms of the recall? The master would sporadically leak but under changing conditions seal back up. The brake would be firm and then all of a sudden completely failed, and would recover at some point. If you had not experienced a failure then the recall fix you got was merely proactive and it would not be a surprise that the feel is the same.

What feel are you used to? The gen 2 brake feel is ambiguous and can go all the way to the bar for maximum power. I think the gen three has the B-King master cylinder. That may not have had as many complaints but for sure the Brembo has a more firm feel, more like a sport bike should. There are two Brembo RCS 19 master cylinders, the Corsa Corta version having an additional feel adjustment, "corsa corta" meaning "short travel."

Most use the 19 mm and they can be had for cheap as many bikes used them as OEM, I have an R1 on mine and it works excellent....I also have HEL lines, EBC HH sintered pads and EBC 5.5mm rotors.....

Sounds like it wasn't bled properly.

I went with a Brembo RCS19 when brand new so I didn't have to deal with that crap.

Rcs19 corsa cota on my 2013 with 34mm vs 32mm calipers. (I believe those are the right sizes) Just a little travel before they bite. They grab very hard

sounds like the 19mm corse cota are the way to get the best feel, comes at a price.

I'll scour flea bay for some Brembo 19mm master cylinder take-offs.

All I have to make an assessment is my very mellow ride home from the dealership on my new 2026. I didn't notice the vagueness of the brakes my Gen2 has. I'll have to test that out on my next ride which should be just a couple days from now. I'll report back here.

As for the Brembo MC mod, I had always intended to do that on my Gen2. ...actually, I picked up an Accosato MC for a good price and will be using that at some point. The problem with using most aftermarket MCs is that you will have a reservoir cup like a Kawasaki. I recall there was a problem with that clearing the dash panel at full lock. There are articulating mounts that fit master cylinder clamps, I think that would help. Otherwise, you have Beringer.

There is a good thread on here somewhere by someone who did the aftermarket front brake setup on a Gen2.

If you can find a Brembo MC from a 2008 R1, they fit perfectly.......pick up a rebuild kit while you are at it for peace of mind....

My bike has the OEM clutch MC and some say it should be changed if for nothing else for symmetry.....my bike is for riding, not showing so I didn't bother.

Had three recalls on mine. They replaced the master cylinder on the last one and then called me back to replace the cover. I had issues in the mountains running corners. Shop replaced the brake fluid with higher temp fluid to see what happens. Hadn’t had any issues since. Just put the forth set of pads on. Over 64K miles
