New Gen II performance questions

Hey all. Recently joined this .org coming from another as a prior Gen I owner. The Gen II is a new beast for me and I've done lots of homework learning about it inside and out.

I'm not a racer, just a tourer with the occasional lust for thrust. I fly planes to get the speed demon out :-)

Anyway, I took a break from bikes and came back onto the scene with a 2011 Black/Red Hayabusa. Already slapped on a BMC street, Akrapovic evo 4-2-1, SS lines, Puig DB, tank bra, spools, alarm.

My questions are around tuning. Stock ECU tuning wasn't around last time I was in this game so my experience is around Power Commanders.

  • PAIR Valve: Do I need to physically remove as with Gen I or just disable it in the ECU?
  • O2 sensor: Do I keep it or disable it and put the bung on my exhaust?
  • List of parts to buy off Greg (e.g. ECU flashing harness and anything else)
  • Other issues / items I should be aware of?

Thanks to all who respond.

We have a black/red 2011 on the floor here and now I'm kind of jealous that I don't have that color scheme. Nice choice

Congrats and welcome :)

PAIR Valve: Do I need to physically remove: YES
O2 sensor: Do I disable it and put the bung on my exhaust: YES (not 100% sure on this)
List of parts to buy off Greg: ECU editor & harness NOTHING else
Other issues / items I should be aware of: pick a tuner that has plenty of experience using the ECU editor.

There is no PAIR valve like on the front of the engine like the Gen-I. Just block the airbox tube unless you decide to remove it all off the top of the engine.

Thanks Got-Busa? Why does Hayabusa Zone sell plates for the PAIR? HAYABUSAZONE

Looking at the service manual the PAIR system looks similar to the crap I tore off my jet ski. In that case I replaced the original plates that had hoses connected to each other and to the air box with block off plates and plugged the hose.

I just blocked off the airbox tube and it works great. FYI I stole one of my sons marbles to do it. It was a bit too small so I put one layer of electrical tape around it and wala, it was a perfect fit. No issues or problems.

The reed valves in the cam cover broke up on mine after just blocking the air pipes off.

Fortunately I heard something wasn't right and caught all the bits before they dropped down the passage into the exhaust port and possibly into the cylinder via an open ex valves.

I'd do a proper blanking job if you're going to do anything with it.

Two different mods, same result...

One plugs the tube and the other is removing the entire system.

Gen-I removed the entire pump on the front of the engine by the headers and used block off plates above the header tubes to cover the holes.

Gen-II doesn't have that setup, it's on the back side like a GSXR1K. You either block the airbox tube or remove it all.

Here is a video showing the complete mod:

Enjoy...

Thanks man good stuff ... at $20 that's not bad compared to the $35 for the APE ones. I'm gonna get 'em.

I got mine at Schnitz ...they were about $30 and are billet Alum. It's nice to have the junk off the valve cover...hoses, pump etc..

Thank you Got Busa for that awesome how to vid. looks a bit more complicated than I expected. Bit easier access to do the same mod on the ZX-14.

I got the little green plug that will ensure the FI light isn't triggered. Can anyone find the thread that shows how/where that plug is supposed to be installed?

Talkind about this little deal here.
