I have one in my garage, it's very cool, but not worth 2k. Buddy of mine bought it and asked if he could keep it at my house since he doesn't have a garage. Umm, let me think...........YA!

This is what i use i have matco, snap-on.mac, and others but i have all the tool guys stop by every week so its easier for me to buy from them and if i break something they always just replace it right on the spot but then again with the money i spend with these guys the always take care of me whatever my needs are

It all comes down to what your trying to do. When it comes to sockets, ratchets, and extensions, I own all Matco.. Sears does not make a quality swivel impack socket that i like.

Pliers, and other gripping tools, Matco seems ot make a better tool.

You bigest investment will be the box you keep it all in.. You can give the snap-on man 20K for a nice size roll around, or pay the Matco man 10K for the samce size roll around, with a side box and hutch.


On a side note, Snap-on lost the patent on their sockets, now S&K owns it. for the price of one rail of Snap-0n sickts you can put a whole set of S&K in the box and have the same quality.

Something that I have slowly came to realize is that when you have a bunch of tools, expensive or otherwise, you will need a quzlity tool box / chest. Most of the tools are heavy and cheapo boxes the drawers will sag / pop out of the tracks. If you have benches you can buy a few 8-10 drawer tops that offer a fair amount of storage + they have a top lid that closes. Another option is check with the snap on / tool truck sales person about repo sets. You can likley get a 5-7K roller box for about half...just be sure to look it over. Some big boxes you almost need a step stool to look in the top shelf.

Eventually you'll have tools to fix other tools. If you buy 1 or 2 tools a month over time you'll be self supportive.

Snap On if you are going to make your living with your tools. Top quality lifetime guarantee same as Craftsman. Craftsman will give you a new tool if it breaks, but not the skin off your knuckles. Craftsman are great inexpensive tools for average joe. I have both. I used to have an old 64 Chevy truck and always carried my Craftsman in there just in case, but if they were stolen I was not out a huge amount.

my fam owned a couple napa stores. i got a ton of hand me down napa stuff. it all work and has lifetime replacement. have bought craftsman and snap on.... not really all that impressed with snap on. ill stick to craftsman. just imho of course. buy and use it if you dont like it buy something different next time. youll never know which is better for you if you dont buy and use them.

I use mainly craftsman, have some snap-on, mac,etc. Even some of the cheap pittsburg line they sell at harbour frieght. As long as its got a lifetime replacement, I really dont care what I buy...but when it comes to cashing in that replacement, I'll stick with sears and harbour freight....because their stores are stationary and I dont have to wait for them to come to me.

The local napa here has also started selling the pittsburg line in specialty tools...torque wrenches and things like that, same as harbour freight. They're cheap to purchase, but I have yet to break any of those "cheap tools", with the exception of the above mentioned torque wrench which they replaced with no hassle.

Craftsman...the warranty is the best, you can find a Sears store in the middle of?? anywhere and you can order any specialty tool from their catalog and have it shipped to your house or a store. I've only broken one Craftsman rachet in 30 years.

same here brother, I've got all my tools from being a mechanic plus when my father died I inherited all his tools a few years ago....I've got stuff laying around that I dont even know what it is!!

Sorry to hear about the difficulty finding work. I'm sure this is a dumb question, but Montana doesn't exactly seem to me like a place one would find a lot of Audis?
