Neither, Just adding to the pile. I have always considered firearms (and ammunition) to be an "investment" both in dollar value and personal safety.

Figure I got just over $3000 (with the goodies attached) in the rifle pictured. Next year (or eventually) it will probably go up in value substancially.

Kind of a..."better to have it an not need it, than need one and not have one" type of mentality.
