Hey Brian,

I wanted to get your take on the TPX 2.0

I know everything from you has been positive on it, but I hear from the radar detector gurus that its inferior to the newer valentine / escort stuff.

I know its bike specific, but if its the diff between getting a ticket who cares? does yours give plenty of notice to k / ka bands? I know we'll never beat a laser, but thoes patrol cars with the k / KA on is what I want to get a warning about.

apparently the new stuff will warn you way earlier etc. or maybe its all BS?

thanks in advance.

Ive now got two detectors my original Beltronics RX65 and a TPX ? dont know if its 1 , 2 or version 3.

Had the RX for 13yrs and its been refurbed once , i use a corded earpiece , used for KA and Laser detection everything else disabled. For waterproofing i just stretch over a surgical glove job done. Had 1 ticket thru instant on , riding around some hills with no one else about he seen me a long way off and just waited till i came around a corner and bam....IF there were other traffic around and he was flicking on off i would most certainly picked it up.

The Tenere i have now came with the TPX with a flashing bright as red LED which is fitted above the dash in very good view, it works that well i dont think i'll bother with an ear piece its that good. I think it picks up KA a bit better/quicker than my RX65 does. So the RX is for car duty now - also it has a different power plug to the TPX so i cant just swap it over quick.
A mate has a TPX and the only real grumble is the crap screws and bolts for the mounts, most of them are rusty just like mine.

If my RX65 crapped out i was intending to replace it with a TPX

Prices down here start at NZ$799

I just am not convinced the radar detector makes that much of a difference. I have zero tickets with my Beltronics STI Magnum, but I also have zero tickets without it. It used to be pretty good at alerting you to the cop sitting in hiding shoot every car/bike that goes by. But the cops here just use instant-on so usually you just don't get a warning like you used to. Also RD's are illegal in VA so you have to conceal them and you have to use an undetectable RD like the Beltronics. So I had mine in the tank bag, which made the laser sensor very limited.

I used a SENA SH10 (I think) to convert the RD audio signal to Bluetooth then paired it to the headset. This was a good setup and you got band and a screech that got louder as you got closer to the radar source. It works great provided the cop leaves the laser/radar on. It works if he doesn't too, but the warning it should give is "You're F'd" lol.

If I lived in a state that allows RD's I would probably go to the trouble to hook it up again. I currently don't have any tank bags on the Busa or the Beemer. The best detection is to understand how cops patrol the roads you ride and behave in high risk areas, and that's free.
