Time to Rotate Friends???

I copied this from "another board", it was NOT written by me, nor is it necessarily my viewpoint, I found it interesting..........

"I started my personal quest 5 years ago. The person I was then, is not the same person I am now, mainly due to life's circumstances. Now I'm informed and eyes wide open. I've made every possible attempt to convince my friends, the need to prepare. Prepare for anything, prepare for something. I've used every excuse I could think of.... What if you lost 1 month's worth of income? What if an ice storm disconnected us for 1 week? What if this? What if that?

It has continually fallen upon deaf ears. FUN FUN FUN is more important. These are people that are already 1 month away from homelessness. That is... if they lost an entire month's income.... they are screwed!!!! They don't watch TV news. They don't read the newspaper. They don't care about environmental issues, medical/health issues, or government. I always HOPED that in a SHTF situation, WE... as friends... could depend on each other. I finally resign myself to the fact I am wrong. These will be the 1st people knocking on my door, assuming I will save them. They are Parasitic Leeches, who make NO effort to help themselves. They expect the gov to do it, me to do it, or some church group to do it. They call themselves American citizens, who have a RIGHT to the American Way. But being a Patriotic Citizen... paying attention to government and legislature... getting involved... is not on their agenda.

I blame 'all of them' for what 'we' will endure. If I allow them into my 'space' during a SHTF situation... I am doomed! Because of their lack of understanding, they will make some dumb stupid decision that will put ME at risk.

I've decided it's time to rotate friends. Out with the leeches, and in with the Patriots (the informed ones). Unfortunately... that means I have no friends left. I'm alone, but I don't regret it. Time to start over again.

Have you rotated your friends yet? Have you considered doing the same thing?"

Personally I find many of the points valid, BUT, the people "he" talks about make up most of our countries population. I think the circle of friends he has rotated to is most likely very small.

I have friends with significant philosophical differences. I think often friendship transcends "serious" topics.

It hurts to watch friends, relatives, children make mistakes but, I dont rotate them out, I guess my criteria for "rotating them out" is a bit different than his.

Have a "rotate" story, what say you?

some people worry too much. i just go as it comes and have fun. the only thing i agree with is having a backup plan if something happens to your job. i dont give a damn about the goverment, i dont care about global warming. you only live once so its fun fun fun for me. but at the same time you got to look ahead and stay on track

I dont talk to people who dont have jobs or wont go look for them. If your happy on welfair, or unemployment, then come clean my house, i'm paying fir it.

YOU'VE BEEN ROTATED OUT

Alright what is SHTF

Yep.....there's jobs out there...just too many people happier living off the system rather than going out and putting in applications and actually working. A quick look through the employment classifieds or careerbuilder or monster will show that there are jobs to be had.....it's a matter of that part of society getting off their arsses and working. I have a neighbor who's been leaching off the unemployment for over a year...40+ years old....dude apparently has no shame...nor any pride for that matter!

while this is very true in a sense, what you dont see is that there may be 70-125 jobs listed and over 8000 people trying to apply for them in your town. where I live its the highest unemployment in the nation...sad actually, and the other thing they dont consider in that % rate is how many people do still have jobs LIKE ME but who's hours are cut down so far that it's hard to make ends meet, those figures arent even incuded in the unemployment rates....I work for myself with a partner, so there is no unemployment insurance for me...we just try harder to find jobs to bid on, but there are no projects right now, last year at this time there was over 200..... thank god for my tax returns that paid my morgage for 3 months....see you all in april...

I would pump gas if I had to if it meant supporting my family.

Definitely ain't happenin' where I live. Too many bums. The really sad part is...those that some of those who do have a job, don't appreciate it. Case in point, at my work there's no less than 20 people who could be fired today and we wouldn't be affected one bit because of their lack of contribution, they're ROADs as we use to call them in the military (retired on active duty).

In the last 3 months we've lost 5 people out of 30 in our department and the impact has been minimal, other than a few vacation days having to be replanned. I know of several people who would love to get in with our company but due to current conditions there's a hiring freeze - we even had our annual Christmas party cancelled last year to help save money, all salaried employees have had their pay frozen for the year and here's AIG giving out $1000-6.5 million dollar bonuses!!

Exactly my point! If I lost my job I'd work 2 full time jobs to make sure my boys eat and my wife is taken care of....and there's plenty of jobs out there to do that with. Just because people lose the job they've had for 10 years or whatever doesn't mean they don't need to work until that same position/work comes available. Sometimes you have to change careers. I had to 3 years ago but it was for the better and the family is much happier because of it (things were ugly for the first 6-9 months but we pulled through).

I've always been careful about the people I choose as friends....and +1000 about finding any kind of job if necessary.

I was at the quick-change oil place the other day having my oil changed in my pickup...there was a "looking for quality people" sign out front, so I asked the manager if that was true or not, given the current unemployment situation. He said that they can't seem to find anyone that wants to work - they had an appointment for a job interview that morning, and the guy just plain old failed to show up (no phone call, no nothing). It blows my mind. I might not like it, but I'm damned sure I could get a job if I needed to feed my family.

Once unemployment benefits close on the minimum wage, some people will almost always take the easy route, and sit on their ass rather than work for it. And, as the stigma of that lessens, more people will do it (oh yeah, and they have the same vote as YOU). It's where socialism takes over....

I hate to tell you this, but the last time I looked Unemployment was only for 6 months after that no more money. Has things change because of all this?

i use to be good friends with these two guys.. now we just hang out but with other people every now and then. he didn't gradutate highschool, dropped out his senior year. he lives with his parents, does not work. does odd jobs to get enough money to mod his 4wheeler and go riding and thats it. has no intention on getting a job or finishing school. i dont see how people can be that stupid? i have a few friends that dont really try to make anything of them selfs. i am about 22 years old. these are good guys but since highschool, they have really gone downhill by not staying in school. am i going to just stop hanging out with them because they dont have alot of money? no im not that kind of person, but at least they are working.

now i know this one guy down the road from me who is only 19. he dropped out of highschool his senior year because he wasn't passing a class. he said it cost to much to go to school . said he didn't have the gas. lol. he sleeps till 11 everyday and stays up late every night. does not want a job. i tried to pay this kid to come wash my truck and he wouldn't do it. he came up with excuses that he didn't have time. this kid complains about not having the gas to go 6 miles up the road. now people like this i dont like hanging out with. on top of that he lies more then anyone i know. everytime i see him hes got like 5 projects hes "working on" right now hes fixing up a cuda and putting a supercharged 302 in an s-10. this kid will lie about what he had for breakfest.

makes no sence to me, i dont how people get like that

I rotated MYSELF out.... moved 600 miles from home after graduating high school.... started a completely new life. Then after college I looked up and realized that my NEW "friends" werent much better.. so I politely excused myself from their lives too.

I see a pattern here... but I never thought of it as rotating friends... more like "NEXT!" (Because rotating means they are going to come back around....)

Bottom line if your "friends" are not productive members of the world, get rid of them.. There are jobs everywhere. Like it has been said before, people just dont want to work.

One of the people who rent from me( fixing to get tossed) does not work, does not want to work, has no want to get out of bed and go to work. they are 4 months behind on rent, and a job at a gas station would pay the 425.00 a month I charge for that unit.

Now the poor girl who lives next to me is dieing to go to work. She got hurt really bad a year ago at work, and is disabled. Shes 29 years old and is stuck on crutches and has a blood clot in her leg that they cant remove.

She only gets 500 a week from workers comp, and her bills are right at 2100 a month. I help her out, with the rent cause she really is a good person, and she always invited Jess and I over for dinner.

Its just sad the way people are now a days. ???

Sometimes you can help people....IF they want to be helped, but if they don't, I cut the ties and move on. I don't need that kind of cyst behavior in my life. I met a guy 18 months ago, talked him off the alcohol and poor behavior. When I first met him all he did was go drinking every night - blew his entire paycheck on booze and the minimal gas in his car to get to work (didn't even carry insurance). I talked with him everyday before shift started, told him in 10 years he'd look back on that part of his life and wonder wth he has thinking and he was putting his job at risk showing up with a hangover as well as everyone working around him - it was either shape up or he would be out of a job within a week. He's now a very productive (one of the top performers) worker for me, is putting aside money into a 401K each paycheck for his future - he's only 23 so his whole life is ahead of him. He's even buying a bike with cash in April - already put half down on it - pretty proud of him - first time riding a bike so he won't be joining the Busa club but he's starting on a 500 instead. Guys like that can be productive members of society if they're willing to listen, but some just can't and won't be helped....unless it's a handout which they're more than willing to take.

Actually I belive Obama is pushing it out to 33 additional weeks.

probably most people in this country would be homeless or very close to homeless if they lost a months income. its been like this for a while.
i dont have a ton of friends but i the friends i do have i love reguardless of their financial decisions or govt affiliation

yeah I think your friends are your friends, if you don't want to help them or fear you will get burned by them then don't help them, or politely ask them to not tell you about there problems any more if they aren't willing to listen to someone with help...people being broke doesnt make them bad people, and not everyone is lazy, alot of people become lazy and give up after only searching for a few weeks or months with no success...they can be lazy on there own, doesn't mean i cant be there friend still, just means they wont be driving over to my house or joining me for a movie or a beer...but I will still go visit them, now on the other hand if the lies and stories get out of hand I'm gone, I cant stand that....there are jobs out there, but its not easy for everyone, I invite you to take a look at our local news for a week or 2 or ask ibified about the minimum wage job he just got...times are tuff, Im sticking with my slow hours for now because at 25$ an hour I make more $ in 1-2 days then I would with 40 hours at minimum wage....most jobs around are less then 8$ an hour even if you work 2 job can you live on that? Id say try to keep a roof over your head somehow and food in your stomachs anything else isn't a necessity
Last summer I paid Andy (ibified) 10$ an hour out of my 25 to keep him working for 6-7 weeks, then sadly in the end we lost the contract...but I have a great friend still, and if i could I would help him again in an instant....just to bad now a days I'm fighting to feed myself and wife...

Indiana reported the biggest increase in new jobless claims among states last week, with a jump of more than 5,500.
Indiana's total jumped, even as new jobless claims across the nation fell more than expected last week.
State officials attributed the increase to layoffs in the auto and manufacturing industries. The next largest increases were in Pennsylvania, Texas, Florida and Michigan.
Indiana Department of Workforce Development spokesman Marc Lotter says the number of claims in Indiana has about doubled from this time a year ago.
Lotter says Indiana has about 163,000 continued claims.
The Labor Department says initial requests for unemployment insurance dropped, but continuing claims jumped to 5.47 million, another record-high and more than economists expected.

163,000 + 5.47 million unemplyment claims wow!
