I have some friends who have worked with Nukes. My physics nerd self was doing some EMP(electromagnetic pulse) research and discoverd................
On July 9th, 1962, a nuclear device was detonated 250 miles above the Pacific Ocean. This event was known as "Starfish Prime"
Some hotels in Hawaii offered "rainbow bomb" parties on their roofs for Starfish Prime.
The spacebased blast was approximately 930 miles away from Hawaii but the EMP took out streetlights and disabled telephones.
Seven satellites were accidently destroyed, some radiation was later found in fungi and lichens.
Pic shows Honolulu sky lit up.
What is the point of this post The point is the world's best scientists cant always predict outcomes. There was a recent post about the Hadron collider, my Physicist buddies assure me there is nothing to worry about, I believe them.
I have heard many stories of people in 1960's Vegas watching nightime detonations, I found "Starfish Prime" fascinating because I had never heard of it. I found quite a bit of info on this project, I usually dont like Wikipedia, but I think they are "fairly" accurate with the link here:
Starfish Prime - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Any opinions?, anyone here ever heard of "Starfish Prime" before this post?
