This is totally off subject: SORRY TO THREAD JACK.

I do not understand when people list there used helmets on Craigslist for sale. I am a huge germaphone, and could not image putting on someone's well used helmet that they have been sweating in and what not. I know you can wash the padding, but only so much? kind of an eeeewwwee factor for me.

I would do something like that if I had some disposable income. I keep my old helmet's beacuse they all mean something.Certian ride's and such.Plus how can you throw away something you paid so much money for even if you won't wear it?

OK so what's the deal about helmets needing to be replaced every 5 years? Why?

Helmets have a limited life, the industry suggests 5 years.
They lose shock absorbing properties with age as the materials age and degrade. So they say. I don't agree nor disagree.
Usually I am ready for a new lid in five years.
Tires are a good example, the industry now says 7 years. If a tire is 7 years old regardless of tread depth, replace them.

If you do any track days or cornering schools, they require the helmet to be newer then 5 years old, I think the 5 year rule is for DOT or Snell requirements.

Kristin on some helmets all the pads & liner are removable so they can be washed, or replaced. I still won't wear someone elses - like underwear.

My buddy at work had a collection like that. About $10k worth. He also had matching jackets for the helmets! He got divorced and sold all that stuff for pennies on the dollars!

I've had 2 helmets over the last 3 bikes.

1st helmet went bye bye after i wrecked and my current fulmer flip up has taken a beating around the garage and since I wrecked and had my full face on I decided it was time to get a new full face and gona replace my flip up here soon.

I kinda want to hold on to my fulmer had that thing what seems like forever lol.
