Hey all,

I am wondering what is needed for a passport x50 to be installed on my bike. Suggestions on heads up displays also would be greatly appreciated. My wife and I each just got a speed award on Saturday.

Thanks for the help,

Gib

You need to get a smart cord.  Installs directly to the battery and has a plug on the end for the detector.

i am not sure on the heads up....maybe the sport vue?

I've seen and used the H.A.R.D system my brother prefers a "Screamer" set-up....

Here is what I have.

I hardwired cigarette plug in the left side under dash cover (inner). I used low beam wires, not battery.
Escort power plug has two LEDs in it. One for the power and anoter one alert.
I opened the plug and soldered 2 bright blue Leds to alert led.
When radar going off I can see those leds blinking . I installed them on top of instrument cluster,
they fit tight between cluster and black plastic piece on top of it.

Materials needed:
2 pre wired LEDs (could be more then two if you want)
2 hours of time if you taking your time.

I also have sport vue (and love it) but that is another story with $250 investment.

Hard system all the way. Then just hardwire (with fuse of course) with the chord provided. Powers transmitter and detector.

The scream would seem to cause too much noise at a stop light...

you dont have to buy the twenty or thrity dollar plug if you dont want to. Just run to wally world and pick up a short phone cord, use the two middle wires for power and ground. If you plug it in backwards, just turn the wires around. It wont hurt the detector if you plug it in backwards.

Other than that, just a place to mount it.

if you need anything else just let me know. Ive done about a dozen of them and have faced just about every problem you could.

I run a mono extension ear jack with the male connector into the detector running under the tank with the female end coming out between the tank and the seat. Then I get a mono earphone jack from Radio Shack and plug it into the female end and run it under my jacket. This way I hear what type of alert I'm receiving, X, K, KA or Lasar without having to see anything. I find that I react much quicker to sound than I do seeing the light and not knowing what type of alert it is.
If you go this route you MUST use a mono extension jack otherwise you will damage the input jack on the detector.
