Tank Bags

I have the Icon Urban Tank Bag. Its the size of a small backpack, big enough to hold a change of clothes and then some.

I would love to have a bagster setup but they don't seem to have one that matches the 06 LE scheme.

I use a Tour Master double tank bag setup, which allows the smaller bag (for short trips) to attach to the Larger Bag (medium trips) making a weeks travel possible without side bags by attaching the smaller to the larger

. Both have Map pouches and together or with the Large Bag alone (but really nice with both attached for long trips) I just lean against them, and just about go to sleep it makes it soooooooooooooooo comfortable

I like the look of the Bagster,

I like that the tank after 14K does not have a mark on it.. (or having to worry about it getting scratched)

I like being able to use a tankbag and it just flips up for fueling without having to take it off and plop it on the ground..

I have never had anyone say that it looks bad and literally dozens ask "where can I get that?"

just personal preference, your taste may vary... but I prefer the "Finished" look of the bagster over the "one size fits all" look of most others..

Gene, kind of like a tire post ya know, you got 25 different bags now

 Consider the size

 Sorry poor guy,I better stop

,I'm killing myself.  Mine is strapped to the bike,I feel more secure that way and the top unzips and expands like an accordion for additional room, works for me.   Let us know, some pics with your new camera please

Gene,  make sure you dont get one that is too big. I had a Joe Rocket that was too big, I couldnt tuck in very well, couldnt see the dash as well.

The Joe Rocket small Manta bag is perfect. It can hold my camera, flash light, wallet, cel phone, snacks, tooth brush & paste, 1 bottled water, extra gloves ... amazing what can fit!  about $45
+1, not to big, fits perfect...

i just got back from a trip and used my magnetic tank bag for the first time.  it is a small "north wind" (i think).  that and a backpack strapped to the rear seat with a helmet net, worked great for a week away.  this thread is the first i recall hearing about dislikes of the bagsters.  from the first i thought they were.......well...not pretty.
laugh.gif

when i was traveling, and would stop for fuel, i would just leave the safety strap attached, and let the bag hang on the side of the tank.  that way, no contact with the ground, and debris collected on the magnets.  one of the other guys on the trip had a simular setup and no issues.  on a side note, for those who have them, will the bagster not eventually scuff the paint like a bra on a car?

R8, where did you get that bagster with the tank pad? That is way too cool!!! I have never seen anything like that! I WANT I WANT!

Motorcycle Superstore has tons of tank bags. They even have triple tree bags and the cortex looking saddle bags but they don't have that Bagster. They do sell the Icon bags too.

Hmmmm...double posted AGAIN...have to learn how-NOT to do that....

I've seen the Bagster set up and it looks cool for a bag set-up, but I don't understand the need for the whole tank to be wrapped up and hidden. I've ridden with my magnetic bag (Rapid Transit Recon 19 - see below) for a couple years with heavy items packed in there and it's never moved an inch. Why would someone hide the paint job of their tank, especially when it's the only area of the bike that has a solid paint job to it, unlike the plastics.

"Let me wrap a bra over my tank it to protect it but so you can't see the tank"

If you ever get in a wreck you may as well replace it with an unpainted stainless steel tank since you won't see it anyway.

I second this one, had mine over a year now and literally "don't leave home without it"! Just TOO spoiled with having a can of Plexus, clean cotton cloths to clean visor at each stop, EXTRA visor (taking zero room because it lines the inside of the bag), tire pressure gauge (big mother), two bottles of spring water, extra shirt (depending on season), ball cap (to protect my dome when the helmet is off), pair of rubber gloves, small emergency flashlight (LED, steady beam, flashing, or SOS morse code).

THEN I decide if I need to take anything extra, because there is still room for stuff in there! Digital camera, or camcorder, or jacket liner, etc.

Oh, and you CAN tuck because of the tapered shape-as a matter of fact, I've heard of guys putting soft stuff on top and laying on it for long rides to reduce wind drag and relax the lower back...

"TUCK" with a TANK BAG

?....now who in the heck wants to do that

I have the Bagster, and the thing about wrapping the tank is about comfort, refinement, styling, and being able to "Clip-On, and GO".........it's also about a look maybe you're not looking for.

I come out of work, or the movie theater, or the Union Hall, or Church (yes, I go), or where ever and it's a loop and click away from pulling away. No getting it centered, and then "carefully" letting the magnetic flaps down. It's not about getting the bag on, and finding the strap down on the seat, and the one around around the yoke, and clipping the thing on. Can you tell, I've owned all three styles
rock.gif
.

It's about convenience, "click-click and the Spudley's gone-gone". Got so used to it, it's become my "Man-purse", i.e. sunglasses case, cell phone, digital camera, small plexus, spare glasses, smokes, maps, baclava, visor carrier, brush, condoms, (hang on I'm looking through it), personal lubricant, viagra, and more condoms, heck I carry a lot of stuff and I still got "a ton" of room for more, UnderArmour tops and bottoms, fleece, you get the idea.

Now the whole, "How do I tuck thing
rock.gif
"......I was out of bounds on a ride yesterday scoping out roads specifically designed for Nevada Hayabusa-Owners-Group use, you know the smooth, well maintained, no-traffic, see-for-miles-down-the-road roads...and I found a "mother" of a route. Well....got to test it out, RIGHT
rock.gif
?.... so I hit it hard to see if my new gear position sensor that Greg made me worked.......IT WORKED....I ran out of marks on the speedo SEVERAL times....face in the windscreen, throttle wide open, needle climbing beyond the number, floating along in low-earth-orbit, actually hit the rev limiter once or twice (In sixth gear, THAT IS A TRIP...and not once did I wonder if the bag was coming off, if I was getting maximum aerodynamics, or if I brought enough stuff for the night ride back....it was a "Heaven" ride and there I was.........enough said, love my Bagster, here's a pic, yada, yada, yada.....
super.gif

Man, rev limiter in sixth, no restriction, I LIKED IT !!!!...and I'm probably going to do it again.......:29

Both styles here.... I promise your tank will get scratched without a Bagster! IF that pretty paint is important to you then my I suggest a tail bag. Otherwise, your not going to be a happy camper. I've had several different tank bags over the years and I agree, They aren't going to move (empty or loaded). Now, every time you stop to fill up with fuel you will be forced to remove the tank bag and thats when the carnage starts. You can protect the top with clear 3m or the likes, but get caught out while its raining and it'll come off almost every time. So, you have a couple of hard decisions to make...

1. Scratched paint?
2. Pretty cover?

lurk.gif
No scratches here and I use it on three different bikes. Its all in how you place it and remove it. Also, don't set it down on anything metal as the magnets pick up everything. Also, don't pull it off the tank when refueling (lift) it off. If I have to set it down somewhere I set it on its top. 21,000 on the Busa and thousands on my other bikes and no scratches.
I found out the hard way what working in a machine shop can do to your tank, via the magnetic tank bag.

I can see that happening...that deserves an "OH SHID", and a

I will suggest that with the bagster or any other bra you should take the bagster on and off on occassion, definitely after it gets wet, to clean the tank and dry the bra. Just like a car bra, with the weather factors being what they are (sun, rain, humidity, etc.) it can discolor the paint on your tank over time.

You will wait 6 weeks as they are made to order in France. Might be other places but this is where Mr Bogus sent me.

I love mine but not for everyone as noted in this thread. Pictures are of install but they snug to the tank when the sun hits them.

I put one on the FJR also and just switch the bag. I bought the Mineta bag where Mr Bogus bought the larger tank bag.
