I left for work yesterday on the bike, 40degrees and sunny at the house with expected highs for the day in the upper 60's. About two miles from the house I hit heavy fog. The road I was on is very hilly and curvy. I noticed that the rear tire was sliding slightly in curves but I thought that it was under control. I was probably going a little faster than I should have been, and I was approaching the last sharp curve before coming to a four lane highway thats a lot less fun to run. Anyway, I lost traction in the curve and low sided in the shoulder/field. I went between a concrete chunk and a metal pole that had a short horizontal bar hanging from it about head high. I went below the bar but my plastics got rashed on the concrete chunk. I was unhurt but a little shaken. It took me few minutes re-orient the bike so I could continue my commute. Other than left plastic rash, and a few scratches on the left fender the bike is good to go. I smelled antifreeze at the scene but none was leaking and of course the FI light was on, which a flick of the ignitiion key took care of. I got back on and made my way the rest of the 20 miles to work. I teach at a high school and the students took great interest in my accident. They really like and are very interested in the bike. This area has 10 times as many cruisers as Sportbikes and the kids seem more interested in the latter. Oh, I was wearing all the gear and didn't get a single scratch, bruise, or broken bone. My suit was a little muddy though.
I will still be at the bash, but my bike's

left side will be duct taped in a few spots.
Looking forward to seeing many of you next weekend.

Great testimony for wearing gear. The plastics can be long replaced when our skin still shows scars. Glad you're O.K.

Do you have pictures of the damage? I may be able to fix some of it for you at the Bash if we have some downtime. I'll bring my plastic welding stuff with me.

Glad to hear all is well, great job navigating the rock and pole

It sounds like a little more on either side and it may have been worse.

Make sure you get the colored duck tape to match the bike.

Pieces are still around the chunk of concrete and metal pole.  I will stop by there this week when I drive the truck to work.  I stopped by there on my way home from work the day it happened and couldn't find a place to put it on the stand, so I didn't get to look closely for the pieces.
I have already ordered a new left side panel, but won't get it in time for the bash.  I would appreciate it if the old one could be welded up.  Never know if I'll need it, I've already messed up two now, both left side.
