I have had a radar detector on the dash of any car I drive since 1983 when I got my last ticket in a small-town speed trap. The next day I spent $300 on an Escort Passport, after I did the math and figured out that insurance would cost me an ADDITIONAL $1500 for the three years the ticket remained on my record!!!

Having gone a year without one on my bike, I was not happy about the LARGE prices on bike-specific hardware I had encountered in my research for a solution. So went down to my local Wal-Mart and dropped a whole $39.95 for a Cobra ESD 737 six band detector that detects both radar and LIDAR.

Small unit, only two buttons and a rotating on-off/volume switch that can all be accessed with gloves on. Mounted bracket to windscreen with dual-lock velcro instead of suction cups (those wear out) and put one piece underneath to prevent vibration. Bent the bracket slightly to match curvature of windscreen, and good to go!! Looks great, VERY small & unobtrusive, LOUD enough I can hear it at speed WITH earplugs, and bright enough to see in daylight through my tinted screen! Loving this thing, and for the price I won't be distraught if I kill it somehow.

Straight cord supplied easily reached back to my trunk-mounted lighter socket. Also unit is almost unnoticeable on the bike. I don't think rain would even reach it, if needed you could easily remove it one-handed and stuff it in a tank bag.

I was considering that one too but wasn't sure if it was up to snuff. Thanks for reporting.

How well do those work with tinted windscreens? I have a nice cobra I was considering, but not sure how well it would work.

Tint has no effect on radar. LIDAR I don't know, don't get much around this area...
