so I'm goin to pop my cherry on the 1/4 mile.. i'm bout to pee my pants i'm so excited... any recommendations?

other than following the first rule of motorcycling of course..

1. do not exit the ride until it has came to a complete stop.

??

good luck!

just take it easy off the line, then hammer down..... oh... you will need to hit the brakes pretty hard at the end.

.. haha.. good advice even though I didn't read it until after the fact. .

so here's what I ran..
my 01' is bone stock... btw.. no straps.. no nothin'.. just me wantin' to be cool.

first run...
R/T - .528
60' - 2.168
330 - 5.182
1/8 - 7.519
mph - 105.32
1000 - 9.547
1/4 - 11.273
mph - 130.00

whoo! terrible reaction time.. but wow..

2nd..

R/t .415
60' - 1.973
330 - 4.909
1/8 - 7.240
mph - 105.54
1000 - 9.302
1/4 - 11.050
mph - 128.31

almost in the 10's!

unfortunatly the track dudes told me I had to have the leather pants to run over 125mph so I had to slow it down a little... my last few runs were mainly trying to get that reaction time down, and working on the 60' time.

my best reaction was .349.. with a best 60' time of 1.888

I'm hooked. that shat is fun.

5 in all I believe... we got there late plus I just kinda chilled and took photos alot after they told me I couldn't keep it nailed the whole way..

2 full runs.. 3 just trying to figure out how to launch harder.

little bubble burst here for ya....

you don't want a reaction time below .500 .... if ya do, its a red light.

i think we must be using two different timers or something..

I managed to redlight once.. but it showed a R/T of -.089.. so I assumed .000 is perfect, and anything higher than that is cool. ..

the timing sheet said something to the effect of "redlight start" on it on the one that I did.. and didn't say anything on the others.

Maybe just a difference in where your running, and where i'm running... or something like that.

Great Runs!

I follow drag racing a bit and I'm pretty sure that a .400 is considered a perfect R/T.

Kent

well shoot me in the foot!
i learned somethin'.

I dunno.. like I said i'm new to all of this... the one that showed a .3 something didn't say anyting about redlighting so I assumed that I had a 3tenth reaction time.. is that not the case?

okay.. i think I solved the problem..

the track i'm running at (bristol dragway) has "street fight" nights where you can just about bring anything and run.. no brackets.. no money, no nothin..just come., pay 10$ and run for the hell of it, or race your buddy etc.

I talked to a dude that does actual bracket racing and the like and he's also taken a street car to this deal and the way he explained it... a perfect light would be .000.

they aren't using the .500, or .400 whatever timing cuz it's just a buncha yahoos (me) out there running and we would never understand that stuff anyway.

Not Bad Bryan, you will be in the tens next time for sure. I would like to try that sometime.

hey tnj,

It was way more fun than I ever thought it would be.. I can't wait to go hit it again. I was plannin' on emailin you and talkin you and chris into going next time.. but i wanna get the leather pants before I go back so I'm not forced to let off and stuff.

I may try and beg, borrow, or steal a pair and try to hit it next thursday if you guys are interested.

Mike also went.. did around 11.7 @ 119 on his TL... he wasn't real happy about that.. but thats the way it goes I guess... dunno if he'll try it again or not.

Glad you had a good time, I would probably like that too. I may go watch you before long. Do ya provide food and drinks for the pit crew? Not sure yet about thur night.

haa.. pit crew.. what yall gonna do? help keep up with my helmet and gloves? .. I don't need no stinkin' pit crew... well yeah, i probably do.. so I guess I could spring for a few cheapie hot dogs and some water maybe... I still got a baby on the way afterall...

Well I guess the pit crew was a bad idea, I hate hot dogs and water. I will just bring my bike. If ya don't mind, let me know when you go next time and I'll try my best to go also. Like you, I have never run at the dragstrip before, so I know I will need some advice.

haha.. you saw my times... i need the advice... it would be interesting to see how much quicker your bike is than mine with the pipe and pc etc. all that go fast stuff you got.. plus the extra shiny parts ya got on me.. haha

i'll let ya know.. gotta score me some leather pants before i'm gonna hit it again.

Mine is a black and silver dog, I'm sure yours is faster. Plus I've put on about 20 more lbs, I'm trying to think of more excuses for when ya smoke me but that's all I can think of right now. Seriously I'm sure like everything else, it would be difficult to do good first time out.
