no more than 8000rpm

Hello to everybody

I am a new member in this forum but still a happy and proud owner
of a 2003 hayabusa for the last 3 years.
Usually for 2-3 monthw during wintertime I leave my bike locked in th garage
(I just take it for a small ride to keep the battery alive).
Anyway, as the weather was awesome on Saturday I took the bike for a 200km ride to
a nearby city. I didnt want to push the bike to its limits so I rode smoothly
at a pace of 160-170 km/h. On Sunday on my way back I tried to push the bike
on the 6th gear but I didn't see more than 260-270 km/h at 8000-8100 rpm and the bike
wouldn't rev more than that. the revs go up when I am stopped (I know I shouldn't do that)...
Anybody's got any clue why this happened?

Thanx

Nik

Welcome! Do you still have the same fuel in it? Could be injectors, fuel pump, battery or some other things that I'm sure folks will chime in with.

I have already filled it up with new fuel.
The battery is brand new. I guess it is the
fuel pump as I have got around 50.000 km on the clock at the moment.
Coulb be the injectors too due to the darn bad quality gasoline..
I hope it is not the pump as it is very expensive (around 800$ in Greece)
Do you know if I am able to repair the pump if its 'broken'??

Thanx
Nikos

It is def. fuel related.
I had the same exact problem, wouldn't go over 8K rpms.
I had to replace the housing that holds the fuel pump in. Their is a filter built into it.
Good luck, I know what you are going through.

so you are telling me that it is not the fuel pump but just the housing?
Sorry If I got you wrong!!
Did you replace the filter as well?

Thanx
I appreciated your reply

I had the same problem. It was housing, same as pipe fighter. The whole fuel pump assemply was replaced. Watch ebay, I just picked up a spare from an 07 for < $60 tmd. I don't know about shipping to Greece though.

Thanx BusaWhipped
Is it possible to pm me the e-bay thread?
I might be able to find out about the postage to Greece.

Cheers
Nikos

Did you add an alarm system this winter? I did a group buy on Scorpio Alarms, and some had that same problem. I think it was something to do with the ignition disable sensor. Might help might not, just throwing a few ideas at ya.

I have had the alarm system on since 2006..
Do you think it may be causing the problem now after so much time?
I haven't had that problem before..

thanx for the ideaz though
I really appreciate it

Could be fuel pump; but I had the same exact symptoms that you describe and I replaced the black part of the fuel sending unit that holds the pump in place and the fuel level gauge.
I was told that there is a filter in it also that can not be replaced.

I needed the same part, mine cracked and was bleeding off fuel pressure.

They are always coming up for sale on ebay.

I'm not sure but in the Scorpio Alarm instructions it says to splice into the orange and white wire, but when I and a few others tried it cut out at the same rpm's. I ended up calling them and running it off the fuel pump.
