New Turbo build opinions

Hi all,

Michael here from Western Australia. First post on the forum although i have been snooping round for a while. I own a 2014 Gen2.

I have purchased a stage 1 turbo kit, BOV, 9:1 pistons, valve springs and cylinder studs all from RCC. I think i will be adding an intercooler and just wanted everyone's opinion whether its worth it for the warmer Aussie climate or if i can easily do without (given the price tag). i will be mainly street riding the bike and i am hoping to get 300whp with the above mods nothing more.

I am definitely leaning towards RCC (as Richard has been super helpful and would be good to have it all compatible from the box) ultimate water/air cooler kit. but reading up on the net i have stumbled across Monster turbos who do a intercooler kit thats half the price. just wanted some opinions on both?

Finally, if i am aiming for 300whp, is there anything additional i should be considering to get the magic number easier and to make the bike more reliable?

If you already purchased pistons save money on the kit ~ and do the #KickStandMod before your bike falls over •

As soon as you said "half the price," I started to think.......ummm, NO. I'm just about to pop for the RCC Stage 2 Ultra with intercooler. It's for my ZX-14R. I'm not aware of any other turbo kit available for the bike. RCC is what a respected friend used exclusively and he built and tuned a good number of turbo ZX-14s.

The only other thing I'd consider is the TTS Supercharger. I don't suppose there's any need for an intercooler with a supercharger and you have the advantage of having no lag. Of course, I'm just getting my feet wet with the boost idea. Richard has been enormously helpful in answering my many questions. I have a very good feeling he's the way to go. I don't mean to be a jerk but a company called Monster Turbos sounds like a company that caters to street posers and the price coincides. ...just a feeling, it's worth looking into. Good job on your homework.
 
One thing that surprised me was that I'll actually be adding a net ten pounds to the bike by removing the stock exhaust and going with an intercooled turbo. Not so big of a surprise, carbon fiber wheels look a bit precarious especially adding a third to double the torque depending on your build and I'm sure plenty of wheelies.
 
Monster turbos are pretty well known, although I haven’t dealt with them personally. They sell rcc kits as well. Scott Davis builds nice kits as well.
 
thanks for the replies everyone, I bit the bullet and ordered the RCC ultra W/A cooler today. if anyone has input on how to improve my current (to be) set up im all ears!

I would like to have the 2.5'' turbo exhaust to be plumbed into the RCC shorty exhaust and then have the External Wastegate through a ''screamer'' pipe out the side fairing, thoughts?

Sounds like you have more knowledge than I do but for aesthetics, I prefer the the exhaust sticking out of the lower fairing along with a separate dump pipe. The typical RCC setup is to have the wastegate join the exhaust. This might save a little fairing cutting but it just doesn't look as cool. There's plenty of street poser in me but I definitely want top quality for when it really counts. As for the other side of the bike, I'd hang onto the short filter provided with the RCC kit but for street posing, I'd go get a filter that sticks out of the fairing a few inches. I really, really, really think you made the right choice by going with the RCC kit. The busa is going to have lag only up to 3000 rpm but if you're like me, you never see 3000 rpm when you're going fast. Stock performance is great for putting around but when you need the extra power, you have it. Congratulations on your new purchase towards your build. I look forward to hearing more about it. Wish I could afford to turbo my Gen2. Maybe I will someday. More likely buy more bikes first like you. :)

Hi. I have a Garrett G 42-1200c turbo. I will be running a dump pipe for the street 4 inch all the way from the turbo. For LSR racing I will run a long pipe that ends in back of my foot peg. Also some pics of my 02 supercharged busa.
