Congrats! Just be extra cautious with that throttle for the first few rides. Simply adjusting your grip will launch it. It's got a real light trigger. Treat it with the utmost respect.

I've got ~550 miles on my bone-stock blue and the surging is still there, but not as apparent after I used Redline injector cleaner. One more tank plus the 600 service ought to do the trick...I hope.

Yeah the grins are a problem. Folks aren't too sure about me after a ride.

The biggest problem/disadvantage is the addictive need to buy tidbits for her. Better tires, mag wheels, PitBull stand, better leathers, matching helmet, steel brake lines, racing brake pads, Redline injector cleaner, Eagle detail polish, soft towels, dust cover, 42tooth sprocket, clutch mod, yellow speedo box, synthetic oil, ad infinitum. With a daughter in college I can't afford any of it. The serious guys will tell you I havn't even begun to mod the bike. It's basically a stocker.

We have a real psychiatric problem. LOL

I am purchasing and picking up my new '00 Blue Busa on Thursday or Friday this week. After discovering this website and reading many of the posts, I have learned a few things:

Purchase the Center stand
Be careful of the side stand (low quality)

Does this CAM chain tensioner problem still exist with the 2000's?

What else should I be on the look out for when I go to pick it up and take it home?

Any suggestions would be appreciated; warning: I am not a techie at all so please keep responses at laymans terms.

Thanks

The kickstand isn't of low quality, but apparently some of the owners of it are. You've got to be somewhat of an idiot to park your bike pointing down hill whether you've got the bike on the side stand or the center stand.

When placing a bike on it's side stand you should always leave the bike in gear and try to remember to take the slop out of the tranny so that the bike can't roll forward. If the bike's not pointing down a hill please explain to me how this could happen.

Use common sense folks.

BTW, read the owners manual twice before you take it out for a ride!

1. "Hang On It Ain't No Honda" Frank Adams advice to me when I picked up mine.

2. Take it easy on the throttle and clutch at first. This is the most powerful bike you have ever been on. A fair number of folks have crashed these bikes in the first 10 miles.

3. Take the trouble to scuff the tires in for the 1st 100 miles.

4. Get the extended warranty. $400 for 4 years is a acceptable price.

5. Breakin is keeping it below 5000 RPM for the first 500 miles, change oil, then 8000 RPM until 1500. Don't feel bad about the 5k restriction at first, that's still 125mph in 6th.

6. Before leaving the dealer check the oil, not over or under filled, radiator bottle between the marks, tire pressure at 42lbs.
Make sure there are screws in the lowest part of the fairing. If you pay the bill and leave the dealer will order the screws then you're in backorder hell mode.

7. Let us know how you make out.

Good Luck man.

Another thought.

8. Don't let your friends drive it. 50% of the crashes my dealer sees are not caused by the owner.

How about the "on/off" throttle in 1st gear? Are the posts about this subject just peoples' opinions or is this a fact? Can anything be done to eliminate or better this problem?

I don't have any problem w/ 1st. Get used to it. You now own more torque than should be legal.

Lyle, funny you telling the new guy to look out for missing screws in the lower fairing. After I picked mine up I noticed later in the day that I had one screw missing down there! I didn't get too crazy about it though. At the 600 mile tune up they put in a new one and I didn't even ask them to.

Word of advice to add to the others. Buy extra screws and the plastic thinga-magiggets that secure the fairings. They always seem to end up missing.

Oh, and one other thing. Then sh** eating grin wears off approx. 30 mins. after a good ride.

1.)Regarding the abrupt off-on throttle: I'm becoming less aware of it (1500 miles) lately, I think because my wrist is recalibrating itself to compensate. Fundamentally, this is a big engine with lots of low end torque, so you'll need to learn to control the throttle...it aint no 600.

2.)Scuff the tires for at least 100 miles, the back end will definitely step out on you if you're not careful

3.)see step 2 :)

Lyle,

Maybe I'm mistaken, but 5k rpm in 6th gear works out to about 95mph in 6th gear on my BUSA. Not 125mph...But maybe I'm tripping!

I am quoting from memory. One of the engineers worked it out for us last year.
You could be right.

Another thought

9. Find a good mechanic. JohnnyCheese is in Kansas USA and Motorhead is in Ohio. Too far to do most of us any good.
