Sorry to hear about your situation. It's rough to pick up and move cross country, I've done it a few times myself. It's hard even with a job waiting for you when you get there.

I hear that the town I grew up in is a boom town now. There's a college there, so lots of young people coming in. Check out Lafayette, Louisiana on the job websites.

BTW, if I know what kind of work experience you have, or what kind of work you would like to do, I can look a little further and get some contacts for you.

well here you guys go. I used to be a plumber in the military. i did that for 4 years. I have been around construcction all my life. SO i can do just about anything. I learn fairly fast. i am not an idiot like i portray on here.

Washington state will be raising min wage to $8.55/hr starting tomorrow. It's not enough to thrive on, but it's not a bad start if you don't have anything.

I worked for Brown and Root, before it was KBR... they were building modules for Alaska, I applied at the job site, not with the main office. Once I was in I moved from job site to job site, you might enjoy that.

It's the heart of Cajun country, people are very nice, and welcoming to out of towners. The second language is French, there can be some pretty thick accents. The food everywhere is really good, a lot of good music comes through town, and the best women you will find anywhere. There is a Suzuki dealership in town too, and a lot of female riders on sport bikes.

Those are the good things. There may not be a tattoo parlor, you may be one of the few with piercings.

But people are welcoming and accepting so you will likely fit in easily.

Chris check out Yates constrution, Roy Anderson constrution.Those two are the biggest down here, they are building big a*$ condos and schools as we speak, They always have something going on down here. I think Roy is building the new casino down here for Jimmy Buffet.
 
i hung steel for Yates one summer between school years, they seemed to be a decent company and were constantly hiring back then :beerchug:
 
Not sure if this would be up your alley or not but ThyssenKrup Steel is setting up a MASSIVE steel mill just north of Mobile AL I am not sure when it is set to open but they are certainly building on it now. This thing is the size of a small city and I remember hearing that 3500 construction workers would be used to construct it!

They have been having job fairs left and right trying to get enough people to run the thing.

Since all the whining and bi*ching Boeing and congress did about Northrop Grumman winning the tanker bid war (and snatching the whole thing off of the table) the Mobile AL area is a little stagnant from an industry standpoint.
