My 2-1/2 year old son Noah is having minor surgery this morning. Please send him a happy thought. More info to follow..... They just took him back ;(

His gown has little giraffes on it and they let him use this car to show him around so he could relax a bit. He kept honking the little horn and getting waves for all the staff.

Oh, he's so cute!! Best wishes to Noah, and I hope everything goes smooth. I'm sure Mom and Dad are worried, even if it's minor. :please:

happy thoughts and prayers, and to a speedy recovery for the little guy

So this all started last Friday night. He and is older brother were watching a moving and eating popcorn. Apparently once they got to the bottom of the bag Noah thought it would be a good idea to drop one non popped popcorn kernel down each ear. He then walked up to his mom and said "mommy, I putty popcorn in my ears". She looked and sure enough he had one in each ear. I came home and we took him to an urgent care clinic (8:00pm). The pinned him down in a straight jacket type thing and dug around his ears. The tools they had were too big so he called 5 different Earn nose and through docs but none would go to the hospital at night or over the weekend. The ER doctor at the local level one trauma children's hospital said wait until Monday and bring him in the morning and we'll have an ENT come knock him out and remove them. He's 2-1/2 so there no way he's going to sit still and let you dig around.

We get there Monday morning and the ENT doctors are all still refusing to come in, they want us to make an appointment at there office. They were the laziest doctors I've ever heard of. What's the point of having "on call specialist" if the don't come when you call. The ER doctor pinned him down again and tried to get them out. By now his ear was swelling from the last ER doc so this new doc couldn't get them out either. In fact all he did cut cut up his ear and push the som far down that you couldn't see the kernels anymore. All they did was make it worse and send us home to find an ENT and have them removed at the office. I spent all day Monday trying to find an ENT that #1 took my insurance, and #2 had a spot open this week. I had zero luck so I called my insurance company and spoke to a patient care advocate and told he to find me somewhere with a spot this week so we could get them out. At this point his ears were bleeding and he was crying all day.

The insurance company found a slot the very next morning (Tuesday ). This whole time the hospitals were saying he needs to be knocked out to have this done and they don't have the special tools needed for this.... Not even the level one trauma children's hospital supposedly had the tools. So now its been 4 days, both ears are bleeding, and the kids miserable. We take him to the ENT office, like they wanted us to do, and they took one look at him and said we needed to go to the hospital to have him knocked out. I was so posse off I didn't know what to do.

We had to wait 2 more days so he could have them removed at a different hospital. Memorial Herman hospital is awesome!!! The staff was great and they took really good care of him. Texas Children's hospital were rude as all get out. In fact, the ER doc pushed those pop corn kernels so far down his ears that he made a tear in one of Noah's ear drums. We're lucky enough that it was a small tear that will heal on its own just fine. It took almost 45 mins to get them out because the swelling around the kernels was keeping them in place. It's all done and he's home resting. We're just glad they got them out without cutting the back of his ears and there's no lasting damage to the drums. Thanks for letting me vent and of the well wished for my boy.

Well! I hope Noah learned a valuable lesson here...don't ever do that to yourself; do it to your siblings!

Glad all faired well and he's home resting...I'm sorry it was so much chaos to get to this point though :banghead:

my poor baby has been crying most of the day. His ears are still bleeding and the pain meds don't seem to be working very well; I sure hope tomorrow is better. :please:
