Media bias or...

...just too many that know how to use a computer??

I'm really getting sick of being bombarded by the slew of "posters" that seem to go viral and are posted as "fact" on the web.

Are we so simple that we just take whatever's fed to us and never bother to research any of it?? It's not just the media doing it; it's every day people sitting at their computers trying to force feed us with very skewed ideals, and are we so simple nowadays that we just accept all that's fed to us??

I was surprised to find that Gov. Chris Christie ordered flags in NJ to be lowered in honor of Whitney Houston, NOT Obama...so, when crap like this is made, shared and becomes "fact" for those looking for one more reason to hate the other side, what does that accomplish?? Both sides are guilty as hell of this; guess we're fortunate that both sides are equally simple

So true! I have to qualify everthing now - Blah blah blah - if true - then...

And, like you're saying it's not even just the internet. it's TV, Radio, and Newspapers... Even have to be careful with the fact check sites as they are getting it wrong - sometimes. - if true

The line between the standard of true journalistic fact and opinion/specualtion is so blurred now that you can't trust anything. It's really about money deep down... The more salacious - the more hits, more viewers, more listeners etc.

The typical way this is done now is to put up a salacious headline then walk it back in the actually artical. Problem is most people only read the headline.

Head Line:
Republican Congressman Smith accussed of killing!

Story:
House Republican Smith killed a bill in committee today...

I liked that one about Chris Kyle v. Whitney Houston because whether it's factual information or not, it seems to be a fairly accurate depiction of our nation's popular values.

Very true, and I think these tactics only create the division between the parties and quite honestly, plant seeds of hate.

I guess I'm seeing more and more that it's coming from the every day Joe, sitting behind a keyboard, making up some random picture with vague "facts". We can't just blame media anymore...it's just as much on us as it is on them :2cents:

I get that, and to be quite honest, I wished it spoke more to the fact that MEDIA gives something like Whitney's tragic death way more airtime and 24/7 coverage than losing our military heroes...I think that's sad...

I just hate that posters like this one are out there, going viral and being shared as fact when in fact, it's lies...only fuels fires that are already burning out of control...

If it makes you feel any better, I only "liked" it. Didn't "share".

What's even worse, is that our supervision actually said something about Whitney during a roll call and an Airman brought up the recent military deaths. It was shrugged off as if that's what was SUPPOSE to happen to military individuals. RIP brothers and sisters. :please:

Call me callous, but I'm pretty sure that's what happens to people who O.D. in bathtubs too. I see honor in only one of those scenarios.

I've always seen you as a fair and balanced person on the org (not the fair and balanced term that is a slogan in the "news") so thanks for making this point, it's quite important and reminds us all to seperate what we "want to read" vrs the actual facts we turn up in our research. Doyle

But Whitney contributed so much more.....

Well she finally did what she had been saying for years. She beat Bobby to death.

I agree with the original thread topic. Lots of these types of things online and Facebook only gives folks a louder voice. As they say never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers

 oh dam dat was funny. yea, I have ZERO sympathy for that crack-head and anyone flying flags half staff to celebrate a drug addicted alcoholic is pathetic! she was an entertainer. thats it. FAR from a role model....
