Let's get some oRg power behind this! I know everyone that has ever been to the gap has a special place for US129 in their hearts. You just can't be a motorcycle enthusiast and not fall in love with that beauty of a road. I hope everyone can find a moment and get some pull behind this issue. Motorcycling is dangerous, but with the truck traffic free to come down the road without even an escort is asking for this to happen over and over. I have included some pictures of what it's like to run across a truck at the gap. Ask yourself, how would your family feel if this happened to you...:please:

WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT

The terrain and layout of US Highway 129 is mountainous with multiple sharp curves, many outside the limits of tractor trailer vehicles' maneuverability. Because of this, the driver of the tractor trailer must compensate for the curves by utilizing the lane of oncoming traffic. This action often times results in vehicles being ran off the road, wrecks, and fatalities. Such a fatality occurred on Wednesday, August 3, 2011. Dwight "Ike" Woodard, a seasoned, experienced, and habitually safe rider, was enjoying a ride with friends on his Triumph Speed Triple. According to law enforcement reports, a tractor trailer rig attempting to utilize US Highway 129 failed to maintain it's lane in a series of curves. The tractor trailer rig crossed into Ike's lane of travel, almost taking up his whole lane. Ike's motorcycle was ran over, but he survived. However, Ike lost his life en route to the hospital due to complications from the wreck.

Josh, I noticed that too. You can just put "change.org" in spam on most email filters and get it cleared up. On the same hand there a quite a few causes out there worthy of attention.

Some of these are heartwrenching

Kevin Woodard 25 days ago

My name is Kevin Woodard, Dwight's only brother. I'm also a commercial truck driver, and have been for 21 years. I can't believe that the state I love so much, would be as stupid and ignorant to allow commercial vehicles travel on this highway! Especially 18 wheelers. I've seen some videos of traveler's going on the "Dragon", and there is absolutely NO WAY a tractor- trailer can drive this section of highway safely. Tennessee, STOP THE MADNESS!!! Now if you will excuse me, I have to go with my mother to pick out his coffin, and then bury him in a few days. Kevin Woodard

I signed it, was leary about giving all the info I gave but I'll handle it when it hits.

You know, it's already restricted on the North Carolina side, It just isn't enforced. Of course it would help to have Tennessee on board, but it would be huge if NC traffic enforcement would get in line with their own laws and start writing tickets.

Signed

Been there many times myself and have been lucky enough not to have to deal with this.

I didn't see any roads that go through that park that would be Semi friendly... but I did see a lot of small towns in there...

You will notice a big difference between this truck and others " flatnose"

I signed it a while back, and started getting emails from them, I think there is something at the bottom of the emails that you can select to stop receiving emails from them, thats what I did and did not get anymore.

I completely support banning truck traffic. I had a buddy literally jump off his bike on the Gap once to avoid hitting an 18 wheeler trailer.

I signed it. Didn't realize that these vehicle would be there? We have i95 here and the Florida turnpike. For years commercial vehicles were not allowed to drive on the turnpike and it was a toll road. Now they can but it used to be nice to drive down a hgwy with no trucks on it. And this is a two lane straight as an arrow turnpike. I can't imagine seeing trucks on us129?

Sticky worthy? As many hayabusa bashes as the oRg has had I was sort of surprised this didn't catch that many replies.

 Thanks to those who took their time, lot's of people greatly appreciate the effort.
