Few years ago IBM tried to create traceable solution for mobile devices, not succeeded tho..
Network MAC address could be traceable, special software embedded into BIOS, or installed on hard drive, nothing was proof reliable enough to make marketable product.

100% of what he said complete BS. And he choose wrong tactics..

What would you do if very valuable laptop was stolen from you? Not just hot $3K hardware but valuable data.
REWARD ! Say I need data from this laptop. I would pay you 2 thousand dollars for hard drive only. You can keep fricking laptop. Cry in public, etc...

Go back and listen/watch it again,  This time watch his eye/head movements and hand gestures with the timing of his words vs whats being said.  I counted 27 lies the first time I watched it.  Dayum rookies.  Hell he stutters on the 2nd lie.

the prof is in deeper shid than the thief.  How many companies are going to hire you to be a consultant when you cannot be trusted to keep your/their data safe?  

What, no backup copies? did he password protect / encrypt the files?

IMO, the prof is twitchy 'cause he is pissed and nervous about losing the data, and the effect it will have on his income.

AND, if I'm already in that much trouble, my out is NOT the prof, but the leverage I now hold over the companies.  They get their data back when I get immunity from prosecution...
