I have been debating for a while if i wanted to go turbo. Does anyone know what the max horsepower the internals are good to??

depending on "which" internals you are referring to..... the expensive goodies like rods and crank have a history of handling 225~240HP with ease.

chances are that if you want to make more..then you'll already be planning turbo slugs, better valve springs, undercut tranny, and billet clutch mod.

i looking at a stage one kit from velocity,  they say @6psi its 240HP.  i just curious if the motor can handle it. I will definitly beef up the clutch, and from what i hear, that should be enough for a stage one.

Anyone know anything i dont??

Stock motoor will handle 240+...if you want to hit hard all the time @ 240-250HP...it is cheap
insurance to upgrade the pistons and rods

(Chromed-n-Stretched @ May 01 2007,03:20) any one know for sure the max HP on stock pistons and rods? im curious.
there is no magic number .... a reasonably well maintained bike with mid ~ low miles will handle most stage one kits well.

a bike that has been raced a lot... or not taken care of...or used cheap oil... perhaps would not fare as well.

there are simply too many variables to make such a presumption that every bike will handle the additional HP in the same manner.

i can understand that, but i know there has to be a magic number (at least a range) they can handle, Im just wondering what the limit for max HP on these motors are . obviously i cant put 400HP into it, but what is their limit before i do throw a rod or crack a piston. i only ask cuz a stage 1 kit will give about 240HP at 6 psi and 8 psi will give about 265 on race fuel. if i add the water injection i can probably up boost to about 10 psi on race gas, but would the rods and pistons be way over their limit for that? (at least for a motor that has been babied) i guessing so, but im dont know for sure. as of now i know they can handle 240+HP, but what is the +, 250, 260...ect the rods and pistons have to have some limit somewhere, im just trying to find the somewhere without blowing the motor

You could always replace everything but the engine case and go for bore/stroke/30psi...

Just throwing it on the table to, ya' know, think about.

I saw this discussed on sh org.a lot off turbo's there.240-250 max.NOS 220 cause NOS hits harder on rods.If ya think you're gonna want more later, you'll need rods, pistons & new valve train to start with.

The tune can make or break the combo, thats for sure. I know first hand from playing with blowers & mustangs.

You took the words right off my keyboard... I was just gonna say from turbocharging my Mustang I learned that its all about the tune, the fuel, the amount of boost, how you drive it, the fuel you run through it, how you maintain it, it all depends.... Lots of factors to consider.

I just took my semi home made stage 1 kit to the dyno, the best pull was 248hp, we ended up tuning it to about 229, and I am happy with how it rides and its peppy {no lag at all}.
I think if youget a velocity kit you may want to get about 240-250 out of it.
For some reason I drove velo kits with 250hp and mine seems to hit harder, I know my turbo spools up a lot faster and maybe it feels like it hits so hard, because the airbox is so small. But anyway I am happy with 230..
I know a guy with 300hp on a stock motor with water injection and hes pulling out timing under boost, I think hes been running it this way for about 2 years...
I think you can run into a problem with stock comp ratio at over 10psi of boost even with water injection and good gas.
So the stock motor has 155 hp, then add 15hp per lb of boost {at best}, and that will put you around 300hp...
Good luck....

Too lean and you melt pistons. Too much timing and you deto and break pistons. That about sums it up.
