Hid installed w/pics

Great first official Group Buy KSB! We knew it would be bright, but the actuality blew away all expectations we had.

USN04Limited and I installed the 6000K kit low beams we split last night. You really won't believe the difference until you see it in person. There is NO WAY a cager is going to miss you going down the road with these on during the day, much less at night. The beam propagation laterally is going to make a world of difference as well when taking curves at night. Didn't take pics as we went, Iceman has the definitive walktrough on that but did take pics of finished result. I'm not going to be able to see without spots for a while yet...

Thanks, BigD!

Honestly, basically the time it takes to take off and reinstall the nose plus 30 minutes to mount the igniter and ballast somewhere. The actual bulb is plug-in, we spent more time wondering and deciding where to put shid than we did actually installing anything. A few notes for those who have not installed yet:

My bulb did not seat tightly under the retainer wire, the base is thinner than stock, so I used the little foam doughnut the bulb was held in a tube with for shipping and put it under the retainer.

The kit comes with an empty plastic plug, I guess it is to retain the spade connectors that plug into the old plug power socket but we could not figure out any way to mount them in the plug that would line up with the old plug. We simply slipped shrink wrap over the wires on the spade connectors, plugged them in to the socket that plugged into the base of the stock bulb and heated the wraps to cover them.

The only other controversy was where to mount the ignitor and transformer, we used 3M Dual-lock velcro (not hook-and-loop, hook-and-hook: sticks like herpes, takes a strong hand to pull off just two square inches!). Don't ask me where to get it, I get it at work.

P.S.- "Brighter than stock" doesn't EVEN cover it- more like the difference between visible and unbearable. You walk in front of the bike, you have to cover your eyes!

Very nice. If it is that much of an improvement over the silverstar mod I guess I need to do it too.

Do it. Money-back guarantee, if you don't love it I will buy it back from you (and trade it to KS for a 5000 high beam!!

If you think about it, the safety factor alone is worth the $100 or $200 you spend on it. Most of us (non-squid types) are probably wearing at least $1000 in gear for protection, how about $200 or less in prevention?!?

Man thats kick ass, no way around it, HID will be on the bike soon. I remember when I saw Teds HID in person that shid is so cool. I see alot of you get the 6k temp. I may go as high as 12k

did you adjust the angle of the beam? do you find the highbeam pointing to the sky?

i switched my wires so when i start the bike the highbeam comes on and the i can throw the switch and the lowbeam which has the HID in it comes on.

but i might switch back and just run the HID cause it's soo bright and adjust it higher.

I lucked out, my low beam was perfect without adjusting- hits cars right at the beltline, doesn't shine into their windows. The high beam is adjusted just like stock, shines straight ahead. But the HID makes the high beam (which is a Silverstar) look like a joke.
I'm thinking the 5000K high beam would shine like a laser about a half-mile ahead- that gives you at least ten seconds reaction time, even on a Busa!

Right, Don?

(How long DOES it take to stop from 180, anyway?!?)
