Hi from New Zealand.

Have had this a few months but only just recovered from a broken arm, so very limited seat time (suspension input appreciated over in that part of the forum, have made a post)

Bikes an 08/09 with 35,000miles on the clock.

Have made my own luggage rack (billet aluminium) for a large winter ride that's coming up , had the seat recovered (gripper material) and shaved down a bit, added heated grips, phone mount, frame sliders, cut down the factory mud guard into a tail tidy and did the humpmod to add storage.

Yes, was flippin bored while in the cast for 12 weeks!!

Welcome along mate!
Bike looks awesome, that rack is pretty solid too, looks the business, you made that? Well done!
Keep posting man, we love pics and vids and long drawn out yarns about shearing sheds and milking turntables lol.
Looks like you are a country lad, where are you in NZ?

Hi mate! Waikato for me. Actually a townie but have just moved rural. Fitter Turner by trade, project manager now but have learned a few handy skills along the way.

Rack evolved very quickly due to lack of thinner pieces of aluminium at the cutters, but in the end I drew up the very thin skeleton you see, and had it water jet cut. Then I purchased a carbide 45 deg router cutter from usa- special because it has a tiney 4mm diameter guide bearing which allowed the cutter to get into the 3mm internal radius corners properly.

Design goal was for a rack that installed and un installed very quickly, was light, allowed access to the underseat storage for tools etc, was durable, didn't hang way out the back (I won't be taking a pillion) and most of all wanted something that was not just a big rectangle like all the others!

Will get it powder coated or try DIY anodising it black after brass monkey :-)

Where are you located?

I already welcomed you but it looks as though you will fit in nicely around here....

Well done on the rack and you never know, there is a market for such things amongst us Hayabusa crazies...

Excellent workmanship. I know a lot of folks that would love a pop on, pop off luggage rack like that. Everything most of us run, takes a few steps.....your quality, attention to detail is top notch !!! Well done !.

Beautiful work, and the laser alignment to find the fairing-slider point is another stroke of genius.

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

Its not often that I find my eyes drifting back to pictures of another man’s rack. What does NRC stand for? And also shut-up and take my money :p

Thanks :-)
NRC are my initials. Iv made a few things over the years and decided from now on id label each piece.

:welcome:
Gripper material on the seat? Type of material used?
Why does it say you joined in '09?

Yeah weird about signing up in 09. I hadn't noticed! Must have been either dreaming about busa back then or signed up to read /access something more specific here... No idea what though!!

Got sick of sliding backward when giving it throttle lol the material is usually used on motor x bikes, super sticky soft rubber vinyl stuff, very effective!

The seat had been re shaped and covered by previous owner - very comfortable but ugly and added height. I had it redone by a friend

Cheers!!!

Pretty proud of the rack but can't take credit for the laser as it was suggested in r&g's instructions!!

Very much appreciate everyone's comments!
