So I was just sitting here and read a thread about a guy on a diet eating a buger (1) at Hardees and stating how good it was to have it as a reward. First thing people do is say how he isn't going to keep the weight off and he needs to try this other diet because it works 100% better. I know that people all have their own opinions as to which system works well and which doesn't.

So what really bothers me is how when the government has an opnion they make it into a law, ordinanace, or guideline that we all need to follow weather or not it makes any logical, let alone common sense. Case and point. San Francisco makes a law stating that toys in happy meals is fueling childhood obesity. Why don't we go one step further and make it a law saying that if both parents are obese then they shouldn't be allowed to have children because they don't know how to have a healthy diet plan to pass on to their children.

Sorry, just makes me upset to see all these laws that have nothing to do with anything other than some politician trying to make his mark in the history book by getting a bill/law/ordinance passed that has his name plastered all over it. It almost seems like you don't even need to know how to raise a child anymore because there is a law on everything right or wrong to do when parenting. What you are allowed to feed them, how you are allowed to punish them, what safety equipment they have to wear when riding a bike. Just pisses me off.

Feel better after this rant. Don't know where it really stemmed from. Just got mad all the sudden. I think we need to take everyone who is/wants to be a polotician and make them have normal crappy jobs that everyone else has because they are the ones who are/will mess things up even more than they already are.

Yea I know what you're talking about, it's absolutely retarded, logically. I wish someone would pass a law that to be a politician you can't be a lawyer or have studied law. Leave that to the lawyers. Someone with good common sense and know how can pass the law to the lawyers for them to make, pay them for what they are, not what they think should be right, leave that to people who can actually think correctly.

oh dont even get me started on the goverment stepping in and telling me what is good for me while they do everything good for them without representation (ie can you tell a elected official what to do? even if the majority agree? keep an eye on me...i got ideas and may run for office soon!!)

I'm a lot more worried about the banks, corporations and Wall Street myself. The other side of the "keep government out of my life" equation is that.....so many people are so dumb, irresponsible and inattentive that what they do affects the rest of us and our well being.
FOR EXAMPLE, we wouldn't have a health care issue if people didn't shove crap down their throats, learned about nutrition and moved their fat bodies. About 90% of disease is self induced so why do I have to pay so much for other slobs when I work so hard to keep myself fit?
(that's my rant about it!) Doyle

Its bad when when my engineer on my tug (I work the Gulf Coast) who is from Bulgaria, tells me what he see going on here reminds him of communism, the same thing that went on is his country years ago, and has warned me to what to expect.

my concept is simple yet would probably get me killed. we have something in this country that majority of individuals didnt have or know how to use 7 years ago and that is the internet. i propose to run for office and set up a website where you can read the upcomeing bills with lightly detailed pros and cons then allow the constituents to log in (they can log into facebook and twitter 20 times a day why not take 5 and actually let your opinion count) and tell me how to vote on said upcomeing bills. easy to track and record for any ? that may come up if i followed "majority" then at that point i would be a representitve of the people for the people. no more special instrest groups. no more back door deals. no more campaign platforms. just exactly what the people want. that is a democracy right? just imagine the campaign trail "mr phillips how do you feel about abortion? well i have my own opinions but when a bill comes up refrence to abortion just log in my website and tell me how to vote the bill. or "mr phillips how do you feel about raising taxes" well i have my own opinon but when a bill comes up log into my website and tell me how to vote!! ohhhh it could be that simple eh.

Thats a Liberal/democrat tenant. The people are too dumb to think for themselves so they have to do it for us, right? You want to know why you to take your hard earned money and support others....Because you keep voting the same people to office. the Govment should provide infrastructure, security, and defense. Somewhere along the way this turned into a nanny state and Dems want to keep it that way there constitutes remain dependent. This country is headed for bankruptcy. Someone is going to have to tighten up their jock strap and cut off the entitlements.

Are you actually trying to say that this country would be better run, if not for the Democrats? Last I checked, not much changed whether the Democrats won majority, or if the Republicans won majority. Doesn't seem to matter much whether the president is dem/rep either.

I agree with you that we need to cut entitlements, but I'm naively curious and a little worried on how that is going to happen. History has shown that such drastic changes to the infrastructure of a country do not come subtly from within. Generally, there seems to be an outside force.

I think that this country would run better if it wasn't based upon political parties. No one can have their own ideas. They just hop on the band wagon and if the rest of their party is voting that way they follow. Blind leading the Blind, I say.

I think term limits for every elected official would be the best start that we could make toward getting the ship turned in the right direction. Let's face it, career politicians from all parties have the same interest....their own!

Many people are fat, dumb and lazy, I don't want to support their slovenly ways....that's a liberal tenant? so what, call me a liberal but I still fought in Viet Nam as a Marine, spent a career in the Los Angeles getto saving lives and dodging bullets....that entitles me to my opinion(and vote) equally with anyone else on here. BTW, I happen to teach Special Education now as a second career and there is a big difference between sponges and truly needy people. I choose to want to help others....you can throw your "nanny state" Republican talking points out all you want but thank goodness not everyone thinks that way.
