Hi, I understand I may be treading on some confidential information here, but does anyone running data-aq have MAP pressures throughout the speed range they'd be willing to share? I'm just trying to see how much of an effect ram-air has if any on a stock gen 1. You can PM me too, if you want.

thanks,
Dave

Sportrider magazine did an article on Ramair for the Busa and many other bikes.

My ZX12 would get an incremental 1.2 - 1.3 psi of ram air boost at 200 - 212 mph at maxton. This was measured by reading the difference between the sensor in the tail section and the sensor in the air box. I never bothered to log on my busa.

Just as a quick followup for those who might search this topic later on and can't access the article. It basically states that the stock Busa airbox achieves a max pressure of 0.24 psi @180+ mph (I converted from their mbar) and gains only about 3hp, but they also stated that they couldn't feed the Busa enough pressurized air on the dyno to get truly accurate results. That is way off of the other bikes including the Blackbird which gained about 7-8hp, but didn't have the flow demands that the Busa motor does. This is due largely to the poor airbox design (as anyone who's done the small box mod knows) and the shear amount of air the Busa motor needs.

I am planning on doing some R&D on box mods, etc and recording the effects once my data logger is installed. So if anyone wants to discuss the results in a few months, feel free to contact me.

Wonder what diff sealing the leaks in the ram air tubes makes.

yea that is some old ass data. I went the full route with the seals on my 2001 and when I did top end runs up to 190mph I noticed a 2mph difference on my bike. Without seals 186-188, with seals 189-190. Many said it was worth it even at lower speeds but I couldn't prove a difference with all the 1/4 mile runs I did in one season.

There are some Fiberglass and Carbon Fiber Airboxes along with reconfigured fiberglass ramair tubes. You have to use the fiberglass nose which eliminates using turn signals. Usually left alone for LSR guys who exceed 200mph easily and can utilize the possible benefits. On a street bike or even a fast strip bike, you probably will never need or notice any difference with the aftermarket airbox and/or ram-air tubes.
