Uh, I think he got the message.

Welcome to the board.

I'm also guilty of not wearing the helmet. Not on the Busa, but on the Roadie. Sumthin' about a big V-twin cruiser and the wind in your hair. That said, I've gotten more concerned about my mortality and ride both bikes with helmets on now. In addition, just ordered full leathers, boots and gauntlet gloves for the Busa. Safety first. My first track day is coming in December. I'm stoked!

BTW, I was born and raised in Columbus. You must be having some great weather there now.

Harleys suck,,,when they get together it sounds like a tractor pull. Clunky, old, smelly,slow...yuk!!
That junk just gets in the way. They should be outlawed...get em' off the road or make em' wear those orange triangles they put on the Amish buggys.

For me there seems to be a difference between my gl1800 where I sit upright and the busa where you're putting your head out front. On the GW, and probably just like cruisers, when you're head is up you "feel" safer since your head is pretty far from the pavement and the impediments out in front. But on a sportbike you're layed over so far it feels like my head is on the next guys bumper. I do wear the helmet 98% of the time on all bikes but if I don't, it will probably be on the GW.

Will a helmet and leathers really keep you alive @ 180+ MPH? I'm not knocking safety, but if your gonna go that fast on a public highway perhaps no helmet is better... this way you don't end up as a vegetable and the gene pool has one less idiot. CA has a helmet law, I wouldn't wear one if I didn't have to.

Back to orginal post... Full throttle is cool, but sex with a "Super Hottie" is better

BTW-watch the guys on tv that race MotoGP or AMA Superbike. They go down (lowside) at ridiculous speeds (160+) and often escape unhurt or with minor injuries.

DEFINITELY wear a helmet!!!!!!
At those speeds
A) it is more comfortable to have a helmet on ==> you can handle the bike better and be more aware of what's going on
B) if you lowside you have a higher chance of walk out of it (obviously not if you smash into a large object at 160+, but assuming you're just sliding.... )
C) if you are NOT wearing a helmet and get rear ended (at low speeds, or at a light) you could possibly be killed if not left like a vegetable for no reason whatsoever...

Best advice - WEAR A HELMET. It's safer, more comfortable and it makes you look cooler

Hey Tim and anybody else that is interested in a new helmet. Try ebay for a new Arai Astral series helmet, or any Arai for that matter. These are $490.00 helmets at about 40% off. These are very light, a good fit, and looks very nice. I have 3 of my riding buddies and myself that have bought these off ebay and are very happy that we did. These helmets may feel small at first but they need to be broke in. They should fit very snug for when you start getting up to around 120 & 130 they should not move around on you face. A Arai sales rep told me that it should be hard to chew gum when wearing any properly fit helmet. All I can say is GEAR, GEAR, GEAR, don't ride without it even if it's a 120 out side. YOU WILL GO DOWN and your skin and face is no match for the pavement.
