With nearly 68,000 miles I must have R&Rd the rear wheel 8-10 times. This time, new tire, Arashi rotor, HH pads, new bearings and seals, and an angled valve stem. Luckily my RoadLok still works with the rotor but, after assembling everything, almost to the point of tightening it all up I notice a leftover part! Whatever it’s name, it’s a 3” long tube that the axle must pass thru between the sprocket hub and the wheel. Surprising that everything went together so well w/o this very necessary part! So, you can guess the rest, one more R&R this time with (all) the parts.:D

Been there a few times...get eveything all buttoned up and look at the bench and there's a part sitting there that needed to go in..

What a sinking feeling.

I did exactly that same thing not knowing the part was missing (took the rim in with the sprocket still on and dealer lost it). I forgot to check and ended up destroying my bearings. Glad u caught it because it can definitely do some damage .

Yeah, no cush rubbers, sprocket or spacers to the shop. All they want it the wheel. I gave em a spotless wheel and all the parts to install. For an hours labor they installed the rotor, tire, bearings and seals in the wheel and the sprocket carrier and an angled valve stem. I put new HH pads in the caliper at home.

About ten years ago assembled a ZRX 1100 engine , and left the starter clutch out . You have to split the engine cases to install it . so that was a big screw up . At least the engine was still on my stand , but cleaning case halves to reseal again sucked .

Not sure if it s a good idea putting angled valve stems on a powerful bike like the busa Has it got some kind of retainer to hold it in place ?

I have tried that type once a while ago and they were getting loose all the time No matter how much I tightened them Since then I have stuck to the normal short rubber valve stems

I've reverted back to my army training, I lay everything out left to right same as stripping my rifle...

If I am taking bolts out of say the clutch cover, I use a piece of cardboard, trace out the outline, use a knife to cut cut holes where the bolts go that I took out..I out an arrow to indicate the top (sometimes the bolts are different lengths).

I’ve also left that bearing spacer tube out when replacing bearings.... and saw it on the bench before installing the wheel on the swing arm, thank goodness.
Only did it once so I now ALWAYS leave it right next to the wheel so I can see it.
Pain in the ass when stuff gets missed and left out, usually because of being in too much of a hurry.

I think that not having the wheel ready right after taking it off was the problem. I hadn’t left all the parts and tools around due to the shop taking a full day to do a one hour job but, after so many times removing it I shoulda had a mental note of where everything goes. Ah, old age is creeping up on me. :D

So why did you put the wheel into the shop?
Was it to fit the 90 deg valve stem?
I guess you don’t do tyres at home, right?
Which shop do you use? A bike shop or general tyre shop?

No I don’t mount tires onto the wheel nor do I press out the old bearings and install new ones. I took the wheel to the dealer where I bought my Z. While they put on a new tire and valve stem they also replaced the rotor and bearings. It’s managed poorly but the shop mechanics do a good job. There are no ‘general tyre‘ shops over here.
