Can you get nailed for just looking ?
nope a looksy will not do a thing, what they were doing was collecting Ebay logins and unless you tried to login, they got nothing..
There are a couple safe guards you can use to protect yourself besides just watching URLs..
Phishing filters: IE 7 has one built in and there are some software ones around.. pretty decent stuff. They detect the URL and the links on the page. They have some kind of routine that runs them together and detects funny business.
Password managers: I use one called ROBOFORM.. it works on my USB flash drive and is fully encrypted. You use an ultra secure password (as this is portable, they have one you can just put on your home computer)
It remembers the site and the password. If you are pulled into a phishing site, ROBOFORM will not fill in the password for you unless you "force" it to. The help here is that you have to manually enter your password and that should tip you off to a problem..
I have no less than about 300 passwords I have to maintain for client sites, my servers, workstations etc that without something like this would be impossible unless they all had the same passwords (no need to tell you the problem with that).
I do not like the idea of carrying around all my passwords but it uses secure one way encryption (you can not decrypt the passwords) and I use a pass phrase to access the data. Just the best option for me..
