Our new baby came today, and my bride is a VERY happy lady. Delivery time was 4:43 EDT. 561 lbs, 14 oz, 60.4 inches long. Fuel injected 1200, 5 speed, rubber mounted engine, lots of chrome over actual metal. Mom and little "Ivy" are resting comfortably.

I have to say that the new rubber mounted engine is wonderful compared to the old Sportster with the solid mounted motor. The fuel injection works great too. No choke or fast idle to fool with. It just starts right up with sort of a fast idle, then settles down a bit after maybe 15 seconds, then relaxed into a gentle loping idle after about a minute. She pulled strong off the line even when cold. No stumble, no problems. Quite a change from my last Sportster. And it's tons more powerful than that Honda Shadow Aero 750 in the background.

We're very happy with the new addition to our family. Little Ivy is already filling our hearts with love.:love::love:

Took Ivy (my wife's 1200 Sporty) out for a much longer ride last night and was truly impressed. Lots and lots of torque, but that should be expected with two 600cc jugs pounding inside. Surprisingly quick - and that's coming from a Busa rider - much quicker than I expected, although I only had her up to 60 mph. Very very agile. Sportsters aren't all that light (I think this one is 560 lbs), but they carry their weight very low so they lean over very quick. I didn't roll her over to the limits, but she certainly had room to go further than I took her. I forgot how much I like riding Sportsters.

Much to my delight, I discovered an genuinely awesome road last night that's only about 5 miles from my house. It's a real roller coaster, up and down with really nicely banked turns. A lot of fun at 30 to 50 mph, and beautiful scenery too!

The only downside was my wife. I had just gotten home, took off my gear, and was coming out of the garage to put the bike away when Cynthia pulls into the driveway after work.

She hasn't ridden the bike yet (she hasn't ridden any bike in 10 years!), but she didn't seem too pleased that I was out riding it. WTF?

Here I was prepared to tell her what a great bike we got for her and how much she's gonna like it, and she starts acting po'd. I explained that I was just "test riding" her bike, just to make sure it was safe for her to ride on. That didn't go over so good either. Told her how important it was to get fresh gas in it. Nope, not that either.

She was better about it after a glass of wine.

I'll get legal tags on it this week.

IMHO, as soon as your wife gets familiar with the bike I would take her out and have her practice stopping, working her way up to panic stops at higher speeds, all this after you scub those tires for her that is.
