There is no reason to on a stock or near stock engine.
The auto-tensioner works fine on the Busas, and can be replaced with the same if worn out.
A manual tensioner also works fine, but you need to adjust it correctly, and check it every so often.
The auto-tensioner just makes it easier.

What are the symptoms of a dying tensioner or chain?
Ticking or rattling from a loose timing chain.
As the spring in the tensioner weakens with miles, the tension will start to become inconsistent, then just looser in general.
The sound is noticeable from the right side of the block, and the tensioner is an easy replacement.
