I've been following posts here for past couple of weeks as I'm getting ready to buy a '00 Busa.

I live in CA and have heard that CA model needs additional and/or more frequent maintenance (throttle body synch?) Am wondering if this is true and, if so, to what extent and would it justify going out of state.

Also understand that differences in weight and hp negligible. True?

Would appreciate anyone's thoughts.

I’m also a CA kid and a little miffed that my tank holds 5.3 gal. and the rest of the world gets 5.8 gal. and on top of that my bike is 3 lbs heavier. My dealer said the cam is different. True?
Where is the added 3 lbs? Plesae help me make it go away.

I think it might be the carbon canister on the right rear tail section.

Didn't know about all this....

Suzuki site says 474lbs (476lbs CA version).

The carbon canister?? mmm, is that why the sleek hole on the right side of the tailsection is blocked unlike the left? I haven't had it off so I don't know. Didn't even know it had one.

Learn something new everyday.

I believe that most all makes that have CA specific models have slightly different cams to handle more strict pollution requirements.

So is there anything to be done about the carbon canister and vapor retrival pipes. Can I just drop the canister and trade out the vapor retrival pipes for 49 state VRPs?

I had a dealer tell me also about difference in cams when I bought my R1. Lot of mis-information out there.

I do appreciate comments.

Just a note to NY and New Jersey Busa owners, check your Bike, as of Jan 1, 2000 all bikes sold in these states are to have "California" Emissions....gotta love the EPA

So what rip all the epa stuff off.
Most get rid of the pair valve anyway.

Within a couple years bikes in CA will have to pass smog tests every other year, just like cars. If you start pulling the emission control stuff off your CA model, make sure you can re-install it for the test, if you plan to keep the bike. It's coming.

Well I don't have a service manual, but I guess I know the answer now.
Mr. Bear, this two year thing, I understand the carbon canister, but do you really think that they will be able to tell about any work on the gas tank? and does this mean that all mods need to come off; is there any grandfather clause suggested?
