last night on KCBA. I turned on news and first image I see was the Busa Kanji on a 2005 Busa Red/black and then a 10R or 2005 6R or 10R Ninja.

It happened at the North Mouth of the Tunnel going from downtown Monterey to Cannery Row.

One of the bikes was going so fast that it sheared, not knocked over a metal light pole (10" diameter)
Apparently from witnesses they were racing and exited the tunnel together too close to eachother and crashed.

Both riders in 20-30s, Poor kids just bought em.
1 Dead at scene.

GOT VIDEO HERE KCBA Tunnel Accident

Roy!
Why??
This could fugg seriously our Cannery Row Nights

Sad to hear, but I'm tired of idiots racing in the middle of towns.  Take it to the track or the middle of nowhere.  I'm just glad no innocent bystanders were hurt!

Motorcyclist dies after crash near tunnel

Herald Staff Report

A man in his 20s was fatally injured when the motorcycle he was riding struck a light pole in Monterey and skidded for several yards, authorities reported.
He and another motorcyclist were heading north on Lighthouse Avenue near the tunnel around 7:30 p.m., police said. Both were riding near each other and were wearing helmets, police said.
The first rider was coming out of the tunnel when he lost control of his motorcycle, police said. The second rider also lost control of his motorcycle for an unknown reason.
Both men were taken to Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. The first motorcyclist had severe head and neck trauma and died at the hospital, firefighters said. The second rider had a possible leg fracture, firefighters reported. Names and exact ages were not available late Tuesday.
A trauma helicopter had been called out to the Monterey Peninsula Airport to take one of the motorcyclists to a San Francisco Bay Area hospital but was called off moments after firefighters attempted to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, firefighters said.
Traffic heading north in the tunnel was limited to one lane and traffic going south was diverted through downtown Monterey. Officers are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident.

Very sad news...wonder if the Busa rider was a member here?

And while I do think racing in general can lead to some pretty hefty tragic endings, it's something we all do at some time...no point in debating...just sad that two young lives are lost because of it...

The FF's likely called of the air lift flight because the rider probably had what are called "injuries incompatable with life". A less horrific way of saying he was badly injured and unsaveable.

Always sad to here man. I know we've all done stupid things, but it doesn't hit home until someone leaves this world. Truely sad to hear thought. Thoughts and prayers, despite who is to blame though.

SAD, but STUPID STUPID STUPID...... We had a rider killed here 2 yrs ago doing apprx 175 downtown during the noonday rush hour. Going so fast he couldn't stop at a red light and T-boned a car. Killed himself and nearly killed another driver.

Ok I ran my busa in the upper stratosphere as well, but never on city streets (highways are not city streets
wink.gif
) Anyway, before I did that I spent some time practicing the safety steps of riding and becoming familiar with the bike, something I've done with every bike i've owned. I think the problem that I've noticed is that people get a brand new high speed bike and feel the need to explore the max speed of the bike before they become familiar with it. Or based on what I see in my area guys have NO RIDING SKILLS and high horsepower bikes. Even before I lost my busa I had stopped riding with a lot of people because they were just to scary to ride with. Man no skills and no knowledge of riding in a group... crazy crazy crazy

Sad thing racing in the city is never a safe thing, the track is the only good place. All bikes now days get up and go so fast, others are not looking for something traveling that speed. In this case it appears they passed there riding level and ego's took over, just so sad it had to end this way.

SAD loss of life.
No point in saying anything about speeding, its what bikes are for.
Nothing can bring life back.

RIP, and condolences to the family and friends left behind.
