From consistent compression numbers, lack of "washed" spark plugs or steam from tail pipe, I would speculate that the head gasket is OK. I understand that kits like the one below can be helpful in confirming things like this.

"Quickly Pinpoints Combustion Leaks; Checks for combustion leaks caused by bad head gaskets, cracked blocks, and cracked or warped heads. Fluid changes from blue to yellow when exposed to combustion gases from the radiator. Connect the hose to any vehicle vacuum line. Or, on tools made after June 2002, use the adapter with no cross hole with a hand vacuum pump. Place tapered end of tool into radiator opening. With the engine running, the vehicle vacuum or the vacuum pump draws vapors through the indicating fluid for testing."
Pretty slick little tool. I hadn't seen that one before. I may have to look into that. Thanks for sharing.

I've used those on cars, and they work really well.

This sounds like the perfect scenario to do a 1397cc w head/cams!!! Then you'll really have some fun riding
Hi. I would put in a 2 mm over crank Marine custom Corrello rods pistons 1 mm over size valves make the exhaust in Inconel port head and cams. With a supercharger and a MAXX ECU. Safe tune you are good to go 100,000 miles.

My apologies for lack of responding recently. Crazy stories to share gents. Dropped off the map because a buddy of mine suffered a major mountain bike crash that caused severe spinal trauma. Been sorting through that helping his daughter keep things rolling. As well sharing the gofundme that's been setup to help with medical costs. So that had me preoccupied quite a bit. Then I found out my friend Hollie whose cancer was in remission just got the news no cancer survivor wants to get. Been a whirlwind of events to say the least.

Alas, now for the downs and maybe finally on the upside with the Busa. Okay, so I ordered a used rad/fan/hoses/overflow bottle group off fleabay from The Moto Guys for $130 smackers. The listing showed it had a slight dent on the left side. Appeared to be a minor lowside or drop. No big deal and they didn't note it had any leaks. I get it in, get it mounted aaaaaaand it leaked. The lower hose connection had been bumped just hard enough to cause the weld where it seats into the body of the radiator to have a pinhole leak. So I hit up The Moto Guys and let them know. They gave me a $55 refund. It was pleasant dealing with them. I'm still going to get some good melting (aluminum welding) rods and fix it. However, I decided to purchase a chinesium "performance" radiator off the ol fleabay. I mean, for $70 beans whatever. Gotta be better than not good. Well, it arrived yesterday, aaaaaaaaand it was slightly damaged due to poor packing. Not unuseable but, not great by any means when it's merely a packing dilemma. Anywho, working on scraping a few dollars out of them. It's actually not bad for chinesium and even feels more heavy'duty than the OEM. That said, it's a royal pain to fill because the neck is tucked real tight under the air intake tube. I had to do some rubber hose slid into a funnel action to get coolant in.

What was the problem? In this case the overheating issue most likely comes back to a bad thermostat. Now, I have no concrete evidence because I've been to lazy to throw it in a pot of boiling water. Whatever, I took the gutted thermostat out of the original motor and slapped it in there. I took her on a about a 10 mile round-trip spin and she did fine. I'll be ordering a thermostat. With ambient temps only around 50°F she obviously didn't get hotted up enough to kick the fan on on such a short trip with coolant constantly flowing.

Sorry I don't have more time at the moment to run through the comments and respond. I'll get to that this weekend. Just wanted to let y'all know I'm still here. Just sorting through a bunch of shat at this time. I do hope everyone is doing well! Our time is finite go hug your loved ones!

Damn, sorry to hear about both of your friends! As a cancer survivor in my 2nd year of remission I get a tremendous amount of anxiety when I go for my routine scans. I wish her the best and to stay strong and the same goes to your buddy suffering the spinal issue.

Thanks chief. I can't imagine the challenges folk like Hollie and yourself go through when dealing with check-up scans. I worked for Fairfax Radiological Consultants and scheduled years ago scheduling exams. I was able to distinguish the apprehension in some folks voices. I pray all the best for during your journey.

Wow, that sucks on all accounts.....good you got your bike running but your friends going through what they currently are makes everything else pale in comparison......

You are correct, life is finite......and we have to make the best of it while we have it......

Welp boys, I've gotten her up to temp, albeit without a thermostat at this time, and the fan cycled appropriately. Temp hasn't gone further than ever so slightly over the mid-point. Running like a scalded dog!

So how is the chinesium fleabay radiator from Performance Cool doing? Despite the little hiccup with shipping and the slight imperfection that was caused during transport it's fine. For $70 smackers delivered to your doorstep it can't really beat. I will say it does look good through the fairing holes. The seller did a solid and refunded $15. Good comm and customer service. So yeah, a decent rad for $55 beans. I ain't shaking a stick at that.

In other news, I'm thinking about running her through the warm season without the thermo. Anyone pulled that off in a warm/hot climate/season? I've ran a couple cars without them with no problem. I just know open/closed fuel loops are based on temp. Not really sure if it'd make a big deal during the hot season? I figure it could be a problem during colder temp riding and things not heating up normally like when a thermo is in there. Any and all thoughts are always appreciated. Thanks for the support everyone!

Had a Carpenter 1397 in my Gen and a Carpenter 1441 in my Gen2,both without the T-stat. Ran 100%,temps never crept past the mid-mark on the gauge. This was in the Hudson Valley of NY,so we definitely had some hot weather around July-August
Nice, that's great to hear. Especially because I seriously dislike bleeding moto systems in general. Thanks for the info.

I seriously cannot get over the fact I have a 1G Busa y'all! Sooooo dreamy! I'll never forget selling an 04 at Coleman Powersports in Hoodbridge, VA in 04 and saying to myself I'd own one someday. It took 20 year but, I have one. Can't believe in just a handful of months it'll be two years. That is just too freakin' nifty!
