Akropovic, Yosh... Tossup!!

Read this... I have a '98 R1 with 41mm Keihins and an Attack Perf. Ram Air Kit and the M4 pipe. Trust me, the M4 is the best sounding pipe out there, bar none. I gained
10.5 hp on the dyno with the pipe alone and
have 150 hp. with everything. The Ack is too
quiet, the Yosh RS-3 sucks and the Hindle is
ugly. Don't hesitate to get the M4.

XtremeR-1: Just like CbxChris said, your going to loose torque through the middle in most cases. But the gain you recieve on the top end more than justifies for that loss. Your going to gain more performance by doing it then not doing it.

If I were you I'd check out that web site that TO_QUICK is talking about and see what the guy has to say about R-1'S.

And, Muzzy does work with bikes other than just kaw. If somebody was telling Me of a 17Hp gain, you can bet I'll be checking into it!

Do the research!!....And then spend the money....

I ran an m-4 on my 99 R1 for a while and could never get used to the hole from about 3500 to 4500. Tried everything Greg Crowe reccomended---still sounded like a spark plug wire was off. Run great above 5000 though and had a very nice sound. If you run it hard, you will be happy with the m-4. It was loud and would pull power wheelies in third.

Hey guys... I read a dyno chart with the Akra pipe with an 11hp increase!! 130hp to 141.. just the pipe. What I was wondering have any of you heard a race RS-3 yosh on a busa?? Thats what my dad has on his and I think its pretty damn loud... I was wondering if any of you knew if the Akra was as loud or louder... thanks

Honda box has an open exhaust loop, disconnect battery then reconnect after install. System compensates for reduction in back pressure. Same applies to ram air and airbox mods. Certain bikes make more impressive gains than others from free flowing exhausts. A good example is the suzuki bandit 1200, usually gaining 20hp piped and jetted. The xx fits into the same category, very corked up stock. I have also opened up the ram air snouts to flow 15% better. Getting the yosh filter next week.

Mike our Yamaha expert says Akropovic is the way to go on the R1. M4 also makes a good system as a second choice.

Thats the setup I had on mine and she wailed. Along with yosh box got 162rwhp. Also have a buddy with the yosh race pipe on a 955i, you should hear it from the flank at full perk. Intoxicating. Currently running the muzzy lite full ti with race can. XX sounds like a bike now instead of a sewing machine.

I had the RS-3 full tit. and now I have the Akr. They both sound pretty close the same. The yosh was a little more loud and the Akr. is a little more deeper. I haven't heard a really loud pipe out side of a megaphone for the busa. I think V&H makes the coolest sounding pipe.
