Here are some pics of the disgusting results of having a tune that was way too rich and running 91 octane fuel. Total miles on bike are only around 15k. Every so often I would pour in some fuel cleaner like Chevron techrone that comes in the black bottle from autozone. I don't think it would of matterd what I used due to the poor tune. Just amazing the bike actually still ran smooth and what seemed at the time to be ok.

I asked if this was the worst the builder has seen. His response was

..."Hi Joe,
What you saw is not that uncommon. You can see where the valves seal on the seats that there is a lot of debris keeping the valve from sealing properly. The bike will run better! I have plenty more pics, these are just some to keep you informed. Have a great weekend and I will touch base upon my return. Take care Joe. Scott"

I think if I would of pulled one of the spark plugs I would of seen the color of the insulator and thought all was good. Guess I would of been a little wrong. Those are stock plugs with about 2000 miles of use.

What lead up to pulling the head? They do a leak-down test and it failed? By the look of those seats I'd imagine it was loosing pressure pretty rapidly.

Nope, bike was running just fine on the road. The only need for the work was that I wanted to get about another 100hp out of the turbo. I was still getting 35ish mpg on the highway on stock gearing. The reason for the teardown... I ran into some time and $$ so I decided to have the internals and transmission upgraded.

Wasn't just the head that got pulled. Just about everything is being pulled.

The motor is already all buttoned up with these goodies all around. Last I heard it was ready to go back in frame and dyno tuned next week, so by end of month it should be avaliable to me. I just have to make time to get it and ride.

That does not look overly rich to me. What you see on the combustion chamber is just normal carbon build up from pump gas. The valve seat area is a little rich, but that tells me your timing was off a bit.

That wasn't off that bad, not that bad at all.

Air/fuel ratio while under boost should be between 11.5:1 and 11.8:1 when this bike was tuned it was more like 11:1 from 5000 rpm on up. A little richer than it should be. The off boost A/F was ok which gave me good MPG on the highway. I was not at risk of melting pistons but the tune was throwing away available hp.
