I did a stretch with work where my territory included Canada and Upper Northern states (NY, VT. ME etc.). Jan/Feb were the worst! I can remember highs were in the negative numbers for like a week at a time.
They used to have tables posted warning you how long it took for skin to freeze if left exposed.
Yeah.....don't miss that chyt a bit!!!!!!

I personally like the cold, it generally off sets all the other crap that comes with living in a warmer climate...

To this day Montreal in the summertime is baked into my favorite places cortex. I'd probably hate it now, but back then, it was wonderful. Some of the most gorgeous women I'd had ever seen, walk around in droves! And then they speak first in French, then know to roll into English, when they talk to you.
I was like, just stay in French. I have no clue what your're saying, just keep saying it. Lol.
Now then, let's discuss the wonderful world of Yellowknife. /sarcasm

In 1998 I wad deployed to Montreal when it got hit by a massive ice storm that knocked out the power to the city.....I've been there a few times in the summer but being there in these circumstances was almost surreal..
Been to Yellowknife a few times as well....if you like blackflies in the spring, that's the place to be....
I've had the fortune to be in each and every Canadian province and territory, each one is unique in it's own way...
I've also spent a lot of time in the US and other countries some of which were entered through the back door and visited covertly which is a really different experience....
Some of the most beautiful places I've ever visited have been right here in Canada.

Come up the Cassiar to Alaska on the western side of Canada, it’s kind of a rough trek, but such gorgeous scenery
A few years ago, from Christmas till the end of Feb, warmest it got was -25. We had 188 straight days of below freezing that winter. That winter really sucked lol. We have the same tables and warning stuff, but we do cold weather testing, so we work till -50.

I'd rather it be cold than that wet, sloppy weather we've seem to be having....
The extreme cold kills off all those pesky, harmful insects and keeps idiots in their houses....
Our mosquitos survived even that and are still big enough to carry away small kids lol.

Coldest I've been in is about -6°f with 20mph sustained winds with gusts, so the weather said...whatever it was, all I know is it was way too cold for me...and was nowhere close to what you're talking about.

What’s bad, I’m originally from Texas lol, but have gotten to where I like the cold a lot better. I can always layer up, East Texas heat and humidity, there’s only so much you can take off and you’re still hot! We do cold weather testing for the military, pretty much anything they need tested, we can do. We do vehicles, clothing, tents, all kinds of stuff. We also have a test track with surfaces and have a bunch of the car companies come do ABS, traction control and stability control testing.

Cool stuff man
I'm in Va where the heat and humidity in summer, are as bad as east Tx, and I don't like that either...but I can handle it alot better than -50 below, lol

I was responsible for operational readiness for our secure comm T/R facilities. While it was mostly a Maytag Repair type thing (very reliable), we still had to check battery back ups and autonomous global pinging systems on regular 30 day checks that had to happen in person. Once at the shack it was all climate controlled inside.
But if it squawked a fault we had a <24 hour response time. And it didn't matter the weather, that was our contract. I remember having to use a metal speed handle to open an access panel outside. I took off my mitten to have a better time using it. My hand had some sweat on it that I never thought about. I held the tool in that bare hand ready to start unscrewing the fasteners. In that 30 seconds of waiting, the tool froze to my hand from the sweat freezing.
Yeah........good times........
