2005 GSXR 1000 with bad welds and broken frame

Actually, Welding aluminum reduces its strength by 30%, unlike steel. The strongest part of a welded aluminum frame is anywhere over 2" away from a weld. Cracked welds on aluminum are not uncommon and It does not matter how Advanced the frame design is. Does this mean all welded frames will crack? no It means they are more likely to crack at the weld under impact than a steel frame weld would. If you don't want to believe me, Call a reputable fab shop.

Either way there should still be penetration on the weld.

i have a 03, that has almost the same weld crack ....only mine is down the center of the weld...... my bike has never been laid down or wrecked ...i dont wheelie it at all......i do a lot of long rides...hot much into hot dogging it .....i took mine to picayune cycles in ms...and they are getting a replacement from from susuki...because of the problems that they were having with the gsxr 750's and 1000's.........new frame should be here next monday...sad to say ...my baby will be at the shop for two weeks getting her frame replaces........

There was a recall on some 2005/06 GSXR 1000 frames for this issue.

My 01 cracked like that in the accident I was in. Split right up the weld and the motor mount portions of the frame snapped off too.

There was a recall on some 2005/06 GSXR 1000 frames for this issue.

I was waiting for some one to say this... i heard about this either early this year or last year.. 5 of my friends took their bikes to the stealership to have the "fix" applied.

I snapped a subframe lug off.
(1200 miles over one weekend, clowning about with a "voluptuous" pillion)

We ground a "V" out back and front and welded it back on.....

That reminds me, I need some touch-up paint too.....

I had an 05 gixxer 1K as well as two 06's. Wheelied the piss out of all three along with lots of track time and never had an issue with frames. Infact, never had an issue of any kind. Simply turn the key and go.

Had six busa's and the only frame issue I ever had was the 03 I wadded up in the foothills of the cascades.

Suzuki makes damn good bikes that are as close to bullet proff as bikes can get!

I'm a BIG dude (way too big to be riding an '05 gsxr1000) and I wheelied the crap outta mine, and put here down hard several times. I never had an issue with my '05 1000. Loved every mile of it!

I’m 95% finished with putting on the new 240 swingarm. Took it for a quick spin last night and noticed the suspension was too stiff. I’m in the process of taking the shock out to lighten the pre-load and then I see this. I don’t know what would cause this. I torqued the bolt down to factory...
