Does anyone have any knowledge of a medical chair called the Carendo from Arjo? We have one that is not working and the company says they can't fix this one and I find that garbage. I am looking for insight that anyone has.

Without getting the particulars of what's not working. Look up DME and possibly DME repair. DME stands for durable medical equipment. Those places generally have the hook up for most purchased lift chairs etc.

It's probably something simple. The motors are pretty hardy. Limit switches fail but not often. The pendant (controller) is my wager. Wires break at the end points. It gets manhandled, spilled on, sat on, etc.

And BAM someone on this forum knows a ton more than I do... I love this place!

My sis can't afford a new chair so I am going to give it a go and see what I can do..

There isn't much to the movements. The limit switches should be a simple go/no go. If the limits are staying closed motors won't go. I don't know what the pendant looks like but you can probably ohm out the run from the pendant to the limits pretty easy. Each button will be pretty obvious. I don't know the failure or the age, but the likely difference will maybe be solid state buttons, and maybe ribbon cables instead of wires.

So theoretically I could bypass the limit switches to see if the motor actually runs... Right

I'm a Mobility tech, most common problems are ,Battery /charger issues and hand set malfunction as Tall Tom says. you can wire the motors direct to see if they're working.

Oh I didn't even think about it being battery. I was envisioning a plug in unit. Definitely do a battery test. The go bad over time .

Thank you @Al Kyrie.

It's alive! Alive I tell you....

This is an 18,000 chair used to help my disabled niece to take showers. We had a authorized tech come and check it and they said it needed to be replaced it was not repairable..

I fixed it with 6 hours of my time and a can of carb cleaner, some WD40 and a little lithium grease... Looks like soap, scum and hard water got in the worm gear and locked up one side...

I would do anything for my sister and my niece,

Thank you TallTom for the guidance...

Glad you got it working. But to be fair, I offered you pretty much zero useful suggestions. Lol

You would be surprised what just talking can help someone think through.

Knowing that there is someone that is saying all the components of that chair and what it could be told me you knew what you were talking about. This gave me at least some comfort that if I got in there and found something crazy we could work through it together...

Thank you again!

I guess. As it happens I had a work vehicle that I couldn't afford down time in.

Go online. Simple they said. Here's YouTube videos in multiples on it.

2 little bushings they said.

Bought the bushings. $6. Hell I got this I said.

All day Saturday and a half day Sunday. Had to rip apart half the dash. Drop the steering column, improvise tool making.

By Saturday evening I was semi nervous I'd be down for revenue. Just what I was trying to avoid. Except it would be in 75 pieces and totally undrivable.

Got it finished Sunday by lunch.

Moral of the story. Don't trust advice from the internet.

I’ve have not been doing a lot of reading on the forum late, so missed this thread, but glad you got the chair fixed for Lindsay(?). I remember when I first signed up on the forum and you had posted about here feeling forgotten and how some cards would cheer her up. I was knew on he and pretty shy, so never made myself part of that, but the story stuck with me. Hope she is doing well!

She is still lonely, no visitors at all but she has a great attitude. She is still paralyzed but can drink from a straw now and can eat pureed foods. She began about a year ago to be able to get some light sounds out vocally and that is an improvement. The bravest, most courageous girl I know.

I remember the stuffed animal traveling around for her too.
That was really cool.
